La strada più impervia. Boccaccio fra Dante e Petrarca
Senza nulla togliere alla grandezza di Petrarca, dovremmo forse dubitare delle sue prospettive di giudizio sull'amico Boccaccio, che, s'intende, scelse la strada letteraria che più gli era congeniale. Per farlo, gli abbisognavano non soltanto le qualità che possedeva copiose, ma le avvedutezze che doveva acquisire con la maturità e l'esperienza. Per conciliare Dante e Petrarca egli non poteva che assumere il ruolo del discepolo chiosatore e del cultore di reliquie letterarie. Con una umiltà, talvolta così esibita da essere non meno goffa della pretesa petrarchesca di non conoscere la "Commedia", con la maschera dello scrittore-commentatore che si dichiarava terzo fra cotanto senno, Boccaccio riuscì a essere fedele a se stesso e, nel contempo, ad affermare la propria "differenza", a salvaguardarla e a nutrirla. La sua "terza strada", tanto faticosa e impervia quanto originale, è per ciò stesso quella di una letteratura conciliante e inclusiva, che non poté e non volle rinunciare a innestare Petrarca sul tronco di Dante, né a mostrare il volto grifagno di Dante tra le ombre e le verzure di Valchiusa. Difende dottissimamente l'originalità del FILOCOPO messa in dubbio dalla scoperta di un antico manoscritto normanno di Stoccolma, su cui si diffonde una lettera di Lelio CARFORA riportata all'inizio. Dedica a stampa alle Accademie della Crusca e alla Pontaniana. MARULLI, accademico Pontaniano. Raro.

8°, pp.52, cop.muta coeva con una picc. mancanza. Lievi fioriture. Fa da pref. allo studio una lettera di Lelio Carfora al Torelli, in cui si legge che, tra "antichi mss. normanni conservati nella R.Biblioteca di Stokolma" fu ritrovato "un poema scritto in versi normanni intorno agli amori di Fiore e Biancafiore, le quali sono bellamente narrate nel Filocopo del Boccaccio..."(p.10).
