With eleven illustrations from original etchings by French engraver illustrator and painter Leopold Flameng. Translated into English from the original Italian. No date to title page dated from similar English translations which first appeared c1890. Boccaccio was an Italian writer poet and correspondent of Petrach. He was an important Renaissance humanist. His Decameron is a collection of novellas. It is a collection of 100 tales told by a group of seven young women and three young men sheltering in a secluded villa to escape the Black Death. It is considered a masterpiece of classical early prose. In original red cloth binding with a paper spine label. Externally very smart. Some bumping to the head and tail of spine spine label is discoloured. Rubbing to joints. Internally generally firmly bound though strained in places. Pages are bright and clean.
