Complete in ten volumes with ten engravings and a frontispiece to each volume. Volume I has an engraved title-page dated 1777. All volumes with decorative head and tailpieces. Volume I is lacking the portrait of Boccaccio but all other plates are correct. Illustrated by Gravelot Eisen Cochin the Younger and Boucher reduced and engraved by Vidal. The imprint is false printed in Paris. Giovanni Boccaccio In French Jean Bocace was an Italian author poet and correspondent of Petrarch. Boccaccio wrote a number of notable works including the Decameron and On Famous Women. As a poet who wrote in the Italian vernacular Boccaccio is particularly noted for his realistic dialogue which differed from his contemporaries. In paper-covered boards. Externally sound with some wear to spines and bumping to extremities. Spines browned. Ink signature to front pastedown of volume I. Internally generally firmly bound. Nouvelle édition de cette traduction qui fut partagée entre trois libraires : Michel Gadoulleau, Abel Langelier et Gilles Robinot. Il s'agit d'une histoire amoureuse entre Fleury et Blanchefleur, amour impossible entre un chrétien et une païenne. La première édition de cette traduction fut publiée en 1542 puis en 1555. Vélin moderne, mouillure angulaire ancienne sur les 120 premiers feuillets et mouillure ancienne sur les 50 derniers feuillets. Peu commun.

La «Vita nuova» del Boccaccio. Fortuna e tradizione
"(...) La Vita nuova è stata cosi in grado di suscitare reazioni assai diverse negli scribi che si sono confrontati con essa, tra i quali spicca Giovanni Boccaccio, che copiò il testo più volte, almeno due, stando alle trascrizioni conservate nei mss. Toledano e Chigiano. L'edizione boccacciana del «libello», sia dal punto di vista microstrutturale (la mise en page delle singole carte) sia da quello macrostrutturale (la composizione dei volumi in cui il prosimetro è inserito) esibisce l'interpretazione del testo e del suo autore, della Vita nuova e di Dante. Tali peculiarità, unite all'ampia messe di manoscritti descripti derivati dalle due copie conservate, hanno reso tale corpus di codici l'oggetto ideale per uno studio di filologia materiale che non si accontentasse di narrare la storia di una tradizione, ma che, analizzando la poetica visuale insita in ogni copia, cercasse di trovare una risposta anche ad alcuni interrogativi pili generali sulle relazioni tra storia della letteratura, storia della tradizione e critica del testo, offrendo sperabilmente anche qualche conoscenza critica in più sul prosimetro stesso. brossura Il Decameron - secondo Michail Bachtin - è il primo tra «i grandi capolavori della letteratura» in cui si afferma «il riso, nella sua forma piú radicale e universale», che ingloba «il mondo intero» e che si stacca dalle «lingue popolari per fare irruzione nella letteratura e nell'ideologia di rango elevato». Questo libro costituisce il tentativo, a distanza di secoli, di ascoltare quel «riso» a volte soffocato, a volte soltanto oscurato da successive forme di censura e dall'accumulo della letteratura secondaria. A un simile scopo si è resa necessaria l'adozione di alcuni principî: non staccarsi mai dalle parole del testo; utilizzare una scatola di arnesi volutamente leggera; esplicitare in ogni occasione la parzialità dell'angolo di lettura prescelto; attenersi, infine, a un suggerimento di Nietzsche e leggere lentamente, senza mai esitare di fronte alla necessità di tornare sui propri passi. Preceduto da vari corsi universitari, il libro ne ha conservato deliberatamente traccia. Con un'implicita e qui reiterata scommessa: restituire leggibilità e piacere a un'opera cosí varia, affascinante e ricca di dirompente vitalità come il "Decameron".
