‎One of 50 copies printed on Japon Bunko Shi paper. Very impressive woodcut. Hans Alexander Müller (born March 12, 1888 in Nordhausen; ? July 7, 1962 in New Milford (Connecticut) (USA)) was a German graphic artist and book illustrator. Hans Alexander Müller studied from 1907 to 1911 at the Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Trade in Leipzig. From 1920 to 1922 he worked here as a teacher in the woodcut class. He then received a professorship in woodcut art at the same institution from 1922 to 1933. In 1923 he also became head of the woodcut workshop at the Leipzig Art Academy. His special profession was book illustration. He worked primarily for Leipzig publishers and provided numerous works of world literature with drawings using all printmaking techniques, but preferred wood engravings. His breakthrough came with the illustration of some volumes from the island library. He illustrated works by Honoré de Balzac, Miguel de Cervantes, Adelbert von Chamisso, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Robert Louis Stevenson, Jean Paul, Gottfried Keller, Voltaire and Oscar Wilde as well as some Bible editions. He was particularly fond of miniature depictions of action-packed scenes. He also mostly created the bindings and dust jackets. He also equipped calendars and almanacs. He worked in the styles typical of the time, from Expressionism to Art Deco. Since his wife Maria, née Riethof, was Jewish and he refused to join the NSDAP, his contract at the Leipzig Academy's woodcut workshop was not renewed in 1937. In 1937, his watercolors Fruit Still Life and Houses by the Sea were confiscated and destroyed in the Nazi "Degenerate Art? campaign from the Kassel Municipal Art House. The couple did not return to Germany from a trip to New York, where Müller's friends Rudolf Max Littauer and von Hellmut Lehmann-Haupt had organized an exhibition of his works. In 1938 his book of woodcuts from New York was published. From 1938 to 1958 he taught graphic techniques in German in the "Department of Adult Education? at Columbia University in New York. In 1944, Müller received American citizenship.‎

Very good.</p><p>Ortiz de Cervantes born in Lima was a Procurator General for Cuzco and Lima; he travelled to Madrid where he had printed one of the earliest manifestations for the creole rights in regards to government in the Indies. That he did with his "<em>Memorial que trata de la perpetuidad de los Encomenderos de Indios del Perú con juridicion en sus pueblos medio eficaz para que este Reyno se restaure conserve y aumente" 1617. This imprint is harsher and "straitghtforward" in its tone. Furthermore in more than one aspect its a groundbreaking statement asking for citizenship for natives and making a strong argument and rightfullness of appointing creoles to positions in the colonial administration and Church Offices.</em></p><p><em>Ortiz de Zárate advirtió en aquel texto que hacía falta desarrollar una política más activa en la protección de la población nativa; la muerte y la huida de los indígenas les quitaba la mano de obra imprescindible para el desarrollo de la economía colonial y su reclamo se extendió en dos nuevos trabajos el primero titulado "Información en favor del derecho que tienen los nacidos en las Indias a ser preferidos ." que ahora ofrecemos en su segunda edición y el siguiente impreso un año más tarde "Parabien al Rey D. Para favorecer esta selección indicó que los virreyes obispos y audiencias "informen de los sujetos capaces y beneméritos de ellas y que cada año el Virrey envíe relación de méritos y servicios así de lo Eclesiástico como de lo secular." Esso si articola in una serie di letture critiche che ne enucleano alcuni temi: la crisi dell'antropocentrismo e l'avvento della scienza nuova, l'emancipazione epistemologica del personaggio di Sancio, l'esaurirsi dei codici letterari della cavalleria errante e dell'amor cortese, la diffrazione dell'archetipo femminile e il personaggio di Dulcinea, la semiotica dei maghi incantatori e le complesse implicazioni metaletterarie di alcuni episodi dell'opera cervantina. Se è pur vero che a quattro secoli dalla sua nascita letteraria, il personaggio di don Chisciotte si è convertito in un mito, nella figura di un eroe tanto malleabile ed essenzialmente indipendente dal suo autore, quanto costantemente fedele a se stesso, nonché ritratto eterno della crisi dell'uomo post-rinascimentale nel suo rapporto con l'esperienza, tuttavia, la forza iconografica ed evocativa del cavaliere errante nasce altrove. Essa trae origine dalle parole demiurgiche del testo di Cervantes.
