Er geriet in einen Konflikt mit der Amtskirche. Jedoch riss die Wirkungsgeschichte seiner exegetischen und dogmatischen Schriften nicht ab, wenn sie auch als Folge der kirchenamtlichen Verurteilung schlecht erhalten sind. Origenes? Biografie folgte den Stationen eines typischen Gelehrtenlebens mit Ausbildung, Reisen und selbständigem Schulbetrieb, unterschied sich aber auch davon durch die Rechtsunsicherheit, von der Origenes ebenso wie seine Mitchristen betroffen war.
