Heinrich Studer (1889-1961) studierte Rechtswissenschaft in Zürich, München, Leipzig und Berlin, wurde 1912 promoviert und unternahm Studienreisen durch Europa. Er besuchte die Schauspielschule Max Reinhardts in Berlin, war Regisseur und Dramaturg am Theater in der Josefstadt und am Stadttheater in Wien. 1917 gründete Studer den Amalthea-Verlag in Zürich, Leipzig und Wien, den er von Wien aus leitete. Das Verlagsprogramm umfasste Kunst, Literatur, Biographien, Politik und Philosophie. Studer, der erste Ehemann von Claire Goll, war Vorstandsmitglied der Schweizer Gesellschaft in Wien und der Auslandsschweizer-Kommission der Neuen Helvetischen Gesellschaft in Bern.
