Seconda edizione. "Ricordiamo questo libro, opera di un tecnico che da circa quarant'anni insegna nelle scuole professionali, esercita la sua arte con una rara nobilta', e segui' lo svolgimento delle rilegature del libro studiando severamente gli esemplari antichi per formare la sua coltura ed il suo gusto soprattutto per i capitoli che riguardano la storia della legatura artistica. Non sono certamente fuori di luogo, per chi voglia avere una sommaria notizia dei procedimenti con i quali si giunge alla perfetta custodia delle pagine, anche le pagine che danno le complesse norme del mestiere; anzi, appunto attraverso queste si puo' intendere quanta finezza di attenzioni e' necessaria per dare alla legatura il sentimento e la ragione dell'arte, cosi' da poter vincere il fine utilitario, e giungere alla grata impressione di un'opera armoniosa e finita" ("L'Arte. (München, R. Piper, o. J., ca. 1930). Hochinteressante Werbeanzeige zur Hervorhebung der einzigartigen Qualität der Piper'schen Verlagserzeugnisse. Der Text ist in unterschiedlichen Typen in Bleisatz auf festes Polsterpapier im Hochdruckverfahren gedruckt, mehrere Zierstücke füllen die Linien, oben in der Mitte das große ovale Verlagssignet "RP&Co" mit der Umschrift "Piper & Co Verlag München". Im Text grenzt sich der Verlag gegen seine Konkurrenten ab: "Angesichts vorstehender Urteile fragen wir die Unterzeichner der gegen uns gerichteten Erklärung: F. Bruckmann A.G. München, Albert Frisch, Graph. Kunstanstalt, Berlin, Franz Hanfstaengl, München, Photographische Gesellschaft, Berlin, ob wir nicht doch von der unerreichten Qualität der Piperdrucke zu sprechen berechtigt sind, und ob sie weiter glauben beanspruchen zu können, ihre 'Normdrucke' unsern 'Piperdrucken' als gleichwertig an die Seite zu stellen? Die gleiche technische Grundlage tut es nicht. Wie wir Herstellung, Retuschen und Korrekturen durchführen: das verschafft den Piperdrucken die Führung! Jeder überzeuge sich selbst! Oberer Rand mit winzigem Papierfalz, links dreifach gelocht, eine kleine Knickspur, sonst von sehr guter Erhaltung, einwandfrei lesbar und höchst sauber geprägt. - Sehr seltenes typographisches Kuriosum.

[Figurato Tipografia] (cm.20,5) ottima piena pergamena antica ben restaurata con foglio ms. sec. XVII. Parti 2 in un volume. -- cc. 4 nn., cc. 119, 1 bianca rimontata; da c. 121 a 255, 1 bianca. Due bellissimi frontis completamente figurati e centinaia di graziose xilografie (cm. 5,5x5,5). Grande marca tipografica in fine con donna che si sostiene ad una squadra e sole che disperde le nubi. Tale marca appartiene a Leni Gioan Maria attivo dal 1573 al 1582. Si conoscono solo 4 edizioni tutte rare. La nostra non è citata, e neppure la nostra marca è illustrata, solo Zappella mne riproduce una simile. Edizione rarissima di questa celebre opera. Manca al Bm. Stc., Adams, Moranti, Cat. 157 Olschki "Theology" e al Cat. 202 Rosenthal "Catholic Theology". Per il tipografo e la marca cfr.: Pastorello N 251; Ascarelli p. 212; Ascarelli-Menato p. 418; Vaccaro p. 293; Zappella I p. 149 e Fig. 452. Antico rinforzo al margine bianco verticale del frontis, alcuni lievi aloni marginali a varie carte ma bello, fresco e nitido.
