In an encapsulated pigskin slipcase covered with etchings beige linen pull-off spine with brown morocco label. With 16 etchings of flora and fauna by Ladislav Hanka. 333 x 248 mm. 13 1/8 x 9 3/4''. A fine copy. This is a handsomely-produced book arts collaboration celebrating the natural beauty of Kalamazoo County Michigan featuring a memorable binding by Czech master binder Jan Sobota. After studying with Karel Silinger in Pilsen and at the School for Applied Arts in Prague and then working in Switzerland Sobota came to the United States where hespend 15 years mostly working at Southern Methodist University. He returned to Loket Czech Republic in 1997 where he founded the Sobota family bookbinding studio and helped to organize the Society of Czech Bookbinders becoming its first president. He has won numerous awareds for his innovative and often whimsical work which has been exhibited worldwide. The present volume is equal parts inventiveness and elegance. Book artist and publisher Ladislav Hanka b. 1952 earned degrees in biology and zoology before receiving his MFA in printmaking and his background in the natural sciences obviously infuses his art which focuses on the flora and fauna of forest and lakes. This volume's collection of prose and poetry inspired by the natural landscape is enhanced by Hanka's dramatic etchings of twisted bare-limbed trees fossils and insects. viii, 94, [2], [1]-120, [4]pp., with half-title. 3 works bound in one (the first named bound last), cont. mottled sheep, worn. The second edition of this poem on the different technical processes involved in printing. This edition was published by Claude Charles Thiboust, his father, Cluade Louis Thiboust, was the author of the poem, and had originally printed it in 1718. The family of Thilboust occupies a distinguished place in the list of French typographers, having started printing in Paris in the middle of the sixteenth century, with successive members of the family being appointed to be Printers to the University. Francis Thompson (1859-1907) was an English poet and ascetic. After attending college, he moved to London to become a writer, became addicted to opium, and was a street vagrant for years. A married couple read his poetry and rescued him, publishing his first book Poems in 1893. Thompson lived as an unbalanced invalid in Wales and at Storrington, but wrote three books of poetry, with other works and essays, before dying of tuberculosis in 1907. SET/W50

Der Druck in der Tiemann-Fraktur und der Tiemann-Antiqua erfolgte auf Old-Stratford-Bütten. ? Walter Tiemann (1876-1951) war einer der wichtigsten Buch- und Schriftgestalter seiner Zeit. Er trat 1901 mit ersten Arbeiten an die Öffentlichkeit. Bereits 1903 wurde Walter Tiemann als Lehrer an die Akademie für Graphische Künste und Buchgewerbe in Leipzig berufen. 1907 gründete er zusammen mit Poeschel die Janus-Presse. Zwischen 1920 und 1941 war er Direktor der Leipziger Akademie. Vorsätze sowie erste und letzte Seiten vereinzelt gering stockfleckig, sonst sehr sauber und gut erhalten.Lange 47; Halbey 72; Eichhorn 1.40.
