STAMPA ORIGINALE DI FOTOGRAFIA, epoca seconda metà dell'800, tirata all'albumina, mezzana (cm. 21,0x25,0) incollata su cartoncino forte color ceruleo (cm. 36,0x46,0) raffigurante un busto di DANTE ALIGHIERI di scuola fiorentina del XVI sec. Sotto l'immagine, a sinistra: 7618 (?) Napoli, Museo, Dante; a destra: Sommer - Napoli. Si unisce: copia in bronzo del busto descritto, dimensioni (massima altezza per massima larghezza) cm. 31,5x43,0.
Il busto di Dante, fino al 1960, era esposto nella sala 87 del museo di Capodimonte a Napoli (Vedasi in proposito Bruno Molajoli, "Notizie su Capodimonte. Catalogo del museo e gallerie nazionali" Napoli, 1960) dove fu spostata, presumibilmente verso la fine del 1957, insieme con la Pinacoteca prima alloggiata nel Museo Nazionale. La copia in bronzo che qui offriamo unita alla fotografia originale, fu realizzata dal laboratorio che il Sommer installò a Napoli, in via S. Attanasio 66, destinato all'esecuzione di statue in marmo, bronzo e terracotta, copie di originali custoditi nel museo Nazionale (archeologico) di Napoli. L'esecuzione è certamente antecedente al 1885, come si evince dall'esame di un'albumina 23,4x29,7 di quello stesso anno, che riproduce i "Bronzi e terracotte del repertorio Sommer" tra cui compare, in bell'evidenza, il nostro busto.
