A particularly charming and scarce image by Thomas Nast of Santa Claus peaking in through a window checking out the lay of the land with two kittens slumbering on a chair. Santa Fe NM : Center for American Places 2006. Hardcover. As New/as new. The jacket has a photo of an old "Casino" sign in front of a metal "genie" lamp both of which once lit up part of Las Vegas. The jacket is clean and very colorful and is protected with a fresh mylar cover. The grey cloth-covered boards are immaculately clean and show no signs of wear. The title is stamped in the front board. Lettering on the spine is in red. The interior of the book is unmarked and clean throughout except for the inscription which is to a noted Chicago photographer. From the inside of the front jacket "Through Judy Natal's photographs the Neon Boneyard becomes a dynamic archaeological site that interweaves Las Vegas's past and present in startling ways." The 4-page introduction "sign language" is written by Natal followed by full-page-color plates on the uneven numbered pages 3 throgh 53 plus pages 54 60 and 68. These are described at the end of the book. The conclusion is written by Johanna Drucker the Robertson Professor of Media Studies at the University of Virginia and a renowned scholar on the history of typography artists' books. and visual representation.
