1861. First Thus . No Binding. Near Fine. 12mo - 7-3/8" Tall Large. F.O.C. Darley & John Gilbert. Publishers; NY: Sheldon & Co.; W.A. Townsend & Co.; James G. Gregory 1861/62/63. An Attractive uniformly bound set of this very important body of works which includes I believe all of Dicken's Novels & the additional 'Christmas Stories' while he was still alive until 1863. All published dates are uniform. In other words there are no odd or out of place dates within the title runs. All are in Very Good to Near Fine condition with very little wear. All of these have the name 'Mary W Fuller' written in a neat hand in either pencil or pen on the first blank preceeding the front matter. Period yellow end papers remain bright and clean no marks what-so-ever. Likewise the bindings are also clean and crisp with lightly chipped and/or occasional small tears to the spine ends mostly on the tops. The overall appearance is quite lovely with the nearly perfect color matching A difficult task as these were published/printed by three different houses from 1861 through 1863. Many photos are available upon request. A Large & Heavy set which will require special packing and treatment for protection. Bookplate to front free endpaper. 38 plates by H.K. Browne Phiz. These are in excellent conditon. Leather corners are rubbed and there is cracking to leather spine and rubbing to its edges rubbing to edges of rear board. Light scratching to the marbled boards and some light marking to endpapers. Robust professional packaging and tracking provided for all parcels. xiv 624 pages. Apppears to be a a first printing with issue points including "screamed" - later corrected to "screwed" page 132 line 20; the etched title page dated 1850; chapter XXVII begins on page 282 rather than page 283 as listed in the table of contents; p.16 line 1 and p. 225 line 22 both read "recal" rather than "recall"; p.19 line 39 reads "cha pter ; ut"; p.387 line 45 reads "coroboration" rather than "corroboration"; and p.472 line 37 has no closing of the quotation marks very slight misalignment of final 'i' on ppviii. There are 4 pages of contents and 6 line errata. It does not have the 8pp of publisher's advertisements generally missing. . Very Good. 1st Edition. Hardback. Bradbury & Evans hardcover
