The Black Cat Post-production script for the 1941 film
Universal City CA: Universal Pictures 1941. Post-production Continuity and dialogue script for the 1941 film. The 1941 version of "The Black Cat" is neither a remake of Edgar G. Ulmer's 1934 Karloff-Lugosi film of the same name nor does it bear much relation to the Edgar Allan Poe story though in fairness neither did the 1934 version. It is more of a horror-comedy affair than its predecessor with Broderick Crawford and Hugh Herbert in the lead Bela Lugosi reappearing now in the more minor role of "Eduardo" and Basil Rathbone ably handling the part of the shady Mr. Hartley. Shot by the legendary Stanley Cortez of "Magnificent Ambersons" fame. Hal Erickson Rovi Title page integral with front wrapper as issued with credits for actors Rathbone Herbert Crawford and Lugosi as well as director Rogell dated April 9 1941. 148 leaves mimeograph duplication. Pages about Near Fine with a touch of foxing and a few short tears and faint dampstains to some of the rear leaves bound with two gold brads. Weaver Universal Horrors. Universal Pictures unknown

Polanski Roman Director
Oliver Twist
TriStar 2005. DVD Movie. Starring Barney Clark Ben Kingsley Jamie Forman Leanne Rowe Harry Eden Edward Hardwicke. 2005 130 minutes. Widescreen format. Closed captions. Fine copy with original artwork. The 23rd by my count filmed version of the Dickens classic this one by no means as definitive as claimed by one of the actors in the supplementary feature. Actually it takes considerable liberties and departs unnecessarily from the novel in ways that do not help and of course Polanski being Polanski could not film in England. However Ben Kingsley as Fagin manages to convey more humanity than is found in some other filmed portrayals. TriStar unknown
