The authors of this book have with Amorim's full approval adapted this mystery story so that it has become an elementary Spanish reader. They believe they have not destroyed any of the suspense of the original. All the words of this novel in its simplified form are found in the first four groups of Keniston's basic and useful words or unless they are easily recognized cognates are fully translated and explained in footnotes and in the Frases Utiles at the beginning of each chapter. In the Frases Utiles the student can find many new words "de actualidad" to enlarge his vocabulary. The footnotes also give some cultural information. The exercises stress the verbs listed in the columns under Repaso de verbos with frequent keys to denote the irregularity.
