‎Illustrierte Ausgabe von 117 Fabeln Aesops in französischer Sprache, jede mit einem halbseitigen Kupfer im Text, einer ausführlichen Diskussion der Moral, gefolgt von einem vierzeiligen Vers von Jean Baptiste Morvan de Bellegarde. Hinzugefügt wurden französische Prosaübersetzungen weiterer Fabeln ohne Illustrationen: 18 nummerierte Fabeln des italienischen humanistischen Dichters und Gelehrten Francesco Filelfo, übersetzt aus dem lateinischen Vers, 37 Fabeln nach Aesop von Gabrias und Avienus, übersetzt aus dem lateinischen Vers, zwei längere Fabeln: "Le combat des Chats et des Rats" (Schlacht der Katzen und der Ratten) und "Le Combat des Rats et des Grenouilles" (Schlacht der Ratten und der Frösche), fünf Geschichten Aesops aus Platons Dialog Protagoras "Les Contes d'Esope", sechs nummerierte "Fables poetiques" mit olympischen Göttern als Protagonisten, und schließlich drei weitere "Geschichten", von Herodot, Pythius und Gerbellius. Die Erstausgabe veröffentlichte Pieter Mortier in Amsterdam erstmals 1708. Die Stiche in der vorliegenden Ausgabe sind Kopien derjenigen in der Ausgabe von 1708 (wo auch jede Aesop-Fabel eine separate halbseitige Gravur hat und nicht paarweise auf Tafeln). Die Stiche (insgesamt 119) wurden von Georg Paul Busch (1682-1759), einem Berliner Kupferstecher ausgeführt, diese in vorliegender Ausgabe nicht signiert. Einband berieben, Außenfalz mit kleinem Einriss, kleine Besitzerstempel auf Innendeckeln, Vorsatz und verso Titel, Buchblock teils gelöst, aber fest, ein Blatt mit Randausriss ohne Textverlust. Gutes Exemplar. Illustrated edition of 117 fables of Aesop in French, each with a half-page copperplate in the text, a detailed discussion of morality, followed by a four-line verse by Jean Baptiste Morvan de Bellegarde. French prose translations of other fables without illustrations have been added: 18 numbered fables by the Italian humanist poet and scholar Francesco Filelfo, translated from Latin verse, 37 fables after Aesop by Gabrias and Avienus, translated from Latin verse; two longer fables: the "Le combat des Chats et des Rats" (battle of cats and rats) and "Le Combat des Rats et des Grenouilles" (battle of rats and frogs); five stories of Aesops from Plato's dialogue Protagoras "Les Contes d'Esope"; six numbered "Fables poetiques" with Olympic gods as protagonists; and finally three more "stories", by Herodotus, Pythius, and Gerbellius. The first edition was published by Pieter Mortier in Amsterdam for the first time in 1708. The engravings in the present edition are copies of those in the edition of 1708 (where every Aesop fable has a separate half-page engraving and not in pairs on plates). The engravings (119 in total) were carried out by Georg Paul Busch, a Berlin copperplate engraver (1682-1759), they are not signed in the present edition. Brown full leather binding of the time. The cover rubbed, outside fold with a small tear, small owner's stamp on the inside cover, endpaper and title on the reverse, book block partly detached but firmly, one sheet with torn margins without loss of text. Good copy.‎
