New York: Scribner Armstrong & Co. 1874. First combined American edition 1st edition thus. Ornate blue cloth hardcover with black and gilt stamping complete with 68 full-page illustrations. Pages: 4 i-iii iv-v vi-vii viii 1-232; i-iv 1-305 306-312 advertisements Illustration pages are unnumbered and not included in the collation except for the two frontis illustrations. Size 7.75 x 5.5 inches. Contains the p. 230 plate variation with the two illustrations following page 230; the first one "Adieu to Mokoum" is labeled Page 230 but actually belongs with "Journey to the Centre." which starts after page 232; the second one "The Natives regarded. is also labeled Page 230 which is correct as it belongs with "Meridiana."</p><p>There are three title pages: The first title page includes both story titles and is dated 1874; the second contains "Meridiana" and is also dated 1874; the third is for "Journey to the Centre." and has no date. The first title page is followed by the typical copyright page on the verso. The second and third versos contain advertisements about other works of Verne and also the statement about authorized editions vs. pirated editions those published under other imprints.</p><p>Overall condition is Very Good. Some bumping and wear to cover with frayed spine caps. Gilt remains pretty bright. Page edges are toned and soiled. Front yellow ffep has penciled price and two previous owners' names and dates 1874 and 1920; endpapers remain cleanly attached. Pages are mildly age toned but clear with a few stray foxing spots and minor creases else no other marks or writing. Binding remains strong and secure.
