‎Edition originale. Originaire du Dauphiné, magistrat, défenseur des Lumières "en toutes matières" et un moment proche de Rousseau, Servan se prononce sur l'"état de Société". "Les moeurs sont le vrai fondement de la prospérité des Empires (...). Eloge de l'agriculture, premier des arts et critique du luxe (...). Ce qui forme un État, ce sont les hommes et le terrain (...). Servan conseille d'employer les soldats aux travaux publics" (INED, n° 4169). Bien complet de la belle planche gravée par Eisen de la mort qui fauche 'la sage vieillesse jouant avec l'aimable enfance & conduite doucement vers le trépas'.(Rochas, 'Biographie du Dauphiné, II, 407, n°V).Bon exemplaire.‎

‎Édition originale. Ancien proche de Rousseau, avocat général au Parlement de Dauphiné, philosophe, homme des Lumières appuyé par Voltaire, Michel Antoine Servan (1737-1807) se livre ici à une violente critique des Confessions. Il critique la sincérité du texte, dénonce une vision des événements toujours partiale et tournée à lavantage de lauteur et la mise en cause de trop nombreuses personnalités gravement diffamées, en particulier Madame de Warens.Contient également deux textes polémiques contre Rousseau de Charles Borde, dont la "Profession de foi philosophique" (p. 112 à 136) qui obtint le soutien de Voltaire, et "Prédiction tirée d'un vieux manuscrit" (p.137 à 147). ‎Edition originale, exemplaire bien complet du cinquième volume de supplément et de l'ensemble de ses planches. Physicien, fondateur de la physique expérimentale et de son enseignement, Joseph-Aignan Sigaud de Lafond (Bourges, 1730-1810) créa les premiers cabinets de physique. Membre de nombreuses sociétés scientifiques européennes, il exerça comme professeur et démonstrateur de physique expérimentale et maître de mathématiques à l'Université de Paris. ‎Edition originale. Professeur au collège Duplessis à Paris et physicien, Pierre Nicolas Sigorgne (1719-1809) s'opposa courageusement aux derniers défenseurs du cartésianisme et défendit avec énergie le système de Newton. Il prit part aussi à de nombreux débats philosophiques, notamment contre Rousseau. Il était le correspondant de Condorcet à l'Académie royale des sciences."Cette introduction aux mathématiques et à la physique de Newton a largement contribué à la diffusion de la théorie de l'unité universelle au sein de la communauté scientifique française. Un résumé latin de cet ouvrage devint la référence newtonienne en Europe" (Dict. of Scientific Bibliography).Sa carrière parisienne prometteuse prit cependant fin lorsqu'il fut arrêté en 1749 en tant qu'auteur présumé de vers satiriques contre Louis XV et Madame de Pompadour. Emprisonné quelque temps, il passa le reste de sa vie en exil à Mâcon, où il poursuivit ses travaux scientifiques et fonda l'Académie de cette ville.(Poggendorff, II, 927.).Mors fendu, coiffes usées.Très bon état intérieur, très frais.‎

Nel suo paese natale istitu? una scuola che lo rese famoso al punto da valergli la nomina a scudiero ordinario della grande scuderia reale. Per quanto non sconfessasse mai sino in fondo le credenze talora superstiziose dell'epoca, De Solleysel fond? buona parte delle basi dell'ippologia moderna, e, primo tra i francesi, scrisse anche un piccolo trattato sull'allevamento dei cavalli da corsa.
