"Véritable subversion des fondements de la théologie chrétienne, sous la forme d'une fable mythologique, Giordano Bruno y développe les conséquences morales de sa conception d'un univers infini, dépourvu de centre et composé d'une infinité de mondes, et s'en prend aux dogmes de l'Éden ou du péché originel, réhabilitant ainsi la nature un siècle avant Spinoza" (Bertrand Levergeois). "Le 17 février 1600, l'Inquisition catholique menait Giordano Bruno au supplice. Lorsqu'une main lui tendit la croix, au milieu des flammes, il détourna la tête vers le firmament infini.
