The author explains how and why harmful language traps work be they deliberate as by politicians journalists advertisers lawyers lobbbyists or inadvertently by our friends and family and how we suffer the consequences when they do work. Examples are government newspeak our troops are 'peace-keeping' forces exaggerated advertising claims from "leading:" authorities twisted logic misleading propaganda; we hear euphemisms every day with slums called substandard housing dogcatchers called animal welfare officers etc. The author explores all these language traps and tells us how to spot them and how to avoid falling for therm. A most useful book to read review and keep around for reference. We are bombarded with this nonsense.
