Cesare Meano (1899-1957) fu un poligrafo torinese: poeta, romanziere, giornalista e regista, negli anni Trenta venne incaricato dall’Ente Nazionale della Moda di compilare un “Dizionario Commentario della Moda”. L’Ente era stato istituito a Torino per Regio decreto con lo scopo espresso di sostenere la moda italiana e contrastare l’affermarsi di quella francese: il dizionario era stato progettato allo scopo fra l’altro di epurare dal linguaggio della moda tutti i termini stranieri. Qui lo smoking è definito dunque “giacchetta da sera”, il tailleur “completo a giacca” ecc. Questa del ’36 è la prima edizione, che sarebbe stata ristampata più volte fino al 1938, anno in cui il libro viene premiato con l’Encomio Solenne della Regia Accademia d’Italia. Cesare Meano was a writer from Turin (journalist, poet and also tv director): after 1930 he was committed to realize this Dictionnary by the Italian “Ente Nazionale per la Moda”. This organization was meant by fascist Government to wipe out from fashion terminology all of the english and french terms. This is the first edition, reprinted many times until the book was awarded by the Royal Academy of Italy.

Mechthild of Magdeburg c. 1207 � c. 1282/1294 a Beguine was a Christian medieval mystic whose book Das fliessende Licht der Gottheit The Flowing Light of Divinity described her visions of God. She was the first mystic to write in German as she did not know how to write in Latin. The Flowing Light was originally written in Middle Low German the dialect of northern Germany. While her original composition is now lost the text survives in two later versions. First around 1290 Dominican friars of the Halle community translated the first six books into Latin. Then in the mid-fourteenth century the secular priest Henry of N�rdlingen translated The Flowing Light into the Alemannic dialect of Middle High German. This version survives complete in one manuscript and in fragmentary form in three others. While her work was translated into Latin during her lifetime her work was largely forgotten by the 15th century. It was rediscovered in the late 19th century by Pater Gall Morel who published the first edition. First and Only Edition of this book as well as it's the last printed example to French-Ottoman Turkish legal dictionaries. This lexicon was created by reviewing an old study on the publication of new laws. Turkish equivalents are given for French terms in the dictionary between pages 5-148. Stating that he felt the need to translate the terms of new law seen in the Turkish legislation from French to Turkish following the proclamation of the Republic, the author writes in the last word of the book that he has been carrying out preparatory work since the 2nd Constitutional Period. For this reason, the book draws attention to the richness of its responses to the terms. The first of the French-Turkish legal dictionaries is "Mecmua-i Istilahât-i Resmiye", published by Baron Ottokar in Vienna in 1870, the last example is this book printed in 1927 in Ottoman literature. First and only edition of this exceedingly rare travel account of America by Dr. Mehmed Fuad [Umay], (1885-1963), who was a Turkish doctor and the founder of Himâye-i Etfâl [i.e. Society for the Protection of Orphans], a society that was established in 1921 to provide orphanages to children of the deceased soldiers in the Turkish War of Independence; began visiting many of the Turkish colonies in the US, giving lectures and raising a considerable amount of money for the establishment of these orphanages in Turkey. On 21 March 1923, Fuad Bey was granted permission from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to go to the US in order to raise funds among the Ottoman immigrants for immediate war relief. Thus, for the first time, humanitarian action became an organized effort by fostering diaspora mobilization. Fuad Bey arrived in Ellis Island on 6 April 1923 on a ship named SS Aquitania and headed to the Ottoman Welfare Association at 35 Rivington Street. In the first meeting held by the Ottoman Welfare Association for the benefit of Turkish Orphan Society, Fuad Bey notes that a total of USD 17,500 was raised in just six hours. To those who donated over USD 1,000, a personally autographed picture of Mustafa Kemal was given by Fuad Bey. He visited the Turkish colonies in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He lectured about the Turkish War of Independence (1919-1922) and the success of the struggle, and many Turkish and Kurdish workers residing in these cities donated their life savings to support the construction of orphanages and the reconstruction of the entire country. Fuad's visit to Peabody, Massachusetts aroused exceptional excitement among the Turkish and Kurdish immigrants. It was the first chance for the Muslim Anatolian immigrants to manifest their national pride and attachment to the homeland. At the same time, their socioeconomic achievement was evidenced with the arrival of Fuad Bey in Peabody in an auto decorated with a large American flag and followed by a dozen autos filled with Turks, the machines decorated with American and Turkish flags.". A day before his arrival, the Turks refrained from work and "went around with badges in honor of his coming. Mehmed Fuad noted that there were around 600 Turks when he visited Peabody in 1923. Despite their small number, they had established Kizilay [i.e. Turkish Red Crescent] society. After being shown some of the tanneries in Peabody and Salem, Fuad gave an address to the Turks and Kurds at the Peabody Institute. The scene was described as: "All the Turks in town were present.
