Si le sens politique fait d�faut � Isabelle II elle encourage et promeut le d�veloppement �conomique et culturel de son pays et sa transformation gr�ce au progr�s des communications. L'Espagne ne lui en sait pas gr� et la d�tr�ne en 1868. Lors de son exil en France livr�e � elle-m�me et affranchie de l'influence n�faste de son clan la reine sans couronne se sent paradoxalement responsable de la continuit� de sa dynastie : pouss�e par l'amour qu'elle porte � son fils le roi Alphonse XII et par un attachement ind�fectible � sa patrie avec laquelle elle entretient des relations parfois conflictuelles elle joue un r�le non n�gligeable dans le processus de la Restauration.
