From the cover page:"The following papers are from the files of the German Ambassador von Mackensen in Rome 1938-1942. They were sent to Berlin for safekeeping in April 1943 and were opened at Marburg Castle on 27 August 1945." Stored in cardboard case. Mackensen stammte aus einer bekannten Milit�r-Familie. Sein Vater war Generalfeldmarschall August von Mackensen sein Bruder General Eberhard von Mackensen. Im Ersten Weltkrieg war Mackensen pers�nlicher Adjutant von Prinz August Wilhelm zuletzt als Hauptmann. Nach Kriegsende war er im preu�ischen Justizministerium t�tig bis er im Mai 1919 ins Ausw�rtige Amt berufen wurde. Im Juli 1931 war von Mackensen Botschaftsrat in Madrid. Im Mai 1933 trat er in die NSDAP ein. Ab Dezember 1933 fungierte er als Gesandter I. Klasse in Budapest bis er am 15. April 1937 als Nachfolger des 1936 verstorbenen Bernhard Wilhelm von B�low zum Staatssekret�r des Ausw�rtigen Amtes ernannt wurde. Nachdem ihn sein Schwiegervater Konstantin Freiherr von Neurath am 4. Februar 1938 in seinem Amt abl�ste wurde Mackensen Nachfolger von Ulrich von Hassell des wegen seiner Kritik an der Italienpolitik Adolf Hitlers zur Disposition gestellten Botschafters in Rom. Am 30. Januar 1942 erhielt er den Rang eines SS-Gruppenf�hrers beim Stab des Reichsf�hrers SS. In seinem neuen Amt arbeitete er jedoch nicht im Sinne Hitlers auf eine baldige Absetzung Benito Mussolinis hin. Daher wurde er am 2. August 1943 nach einem Gespr�ch mit Hitler seines Amtes enthoben; General der SS blieb er und nahm in dieser Eigenschaft an der SS-Gruppenf�hrertagung in Posen am 4. Oktober 1943 teil bei der Heinrich Himmler die erste der Posener Reden hielt. Von Mai 1945 bis April 1946 war von Mackensen in franz�sischer Kriegsgefangenschaft. In 1792 back in Mexico Malaspina dispatched two schooners or "goletas" to conduct more detailed explorations of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Strait of Georgia. He was born into a distinguished military family in Edirne and as a young man he served in the army and later studied at various madrasas and became the Kadi of Edirne in 1515. He became a highly respected scholar and was commissioned by the Ottoman ruler Bayezid II to write an Ottoman history. During the reign of Selim I in 1516 he was appointed as military judge of Anatolia and accompanied the Ottoman army to Egypt.
