Abraham Judah ha-Kohen Schwartz 1824-1883 also known by his responsa as the Kol Aryeh was one of the leading Hungarian rabbis of the nineteenth century. Although Rabbi Schwartz studied in the Pressburg Yeshiva whose leaders were opposed to Hasidism he became deeply attached to Hasidism after a visit he made to Chaim Halberstam the founder of the Sanz hasidic dynasty. Yosef Dov Soloveitchik 1820 - 1892 was the author of Beis Halevi by which name he is better known among Talmudic scholars. He was the great-grandson of Rabbi Chaim Volozhin. Text is unmarked by underlining or notations. Abraham ben Ze'ev Nahum Bornstein of Sochaczew 1839-1910 was a Polish rabbi head of the bet din of Sochaczew. In 1870 following the death of Hanokh Henyekh leader of the Aleksandrow Hasidim he was appointed his successor but was harassed by slanderers. Abraham founded a yeshivah and was one of the great halakhic authorities of his generation. He originated a special approach to halakhic studies and educated in his yeshivah a generation of disciples who became scholarly Hasidic leaders. Abraham's halakhic works are Eglei Tal 1905 including a study of the laws of the Sabbath and Avnei Nezer 1912-34 a collection of responsa on the four parts of the Shulhan Arukh. He was succeeded as head of the Aleksandrow Hasidim by his only son Samuel 1856-1926 who edited his father's writings and responsa on the Shulhan Arukh and wrote Shem mi-Shemu'el 1928-34 which sets forth many of his father's ideas on Hasidism.Encyclopaedia Judaica. Born into a Zaydi Shi'a Muslim family ash-Shawkani later on adopted the ideology within Sunni Islam and called for a return to the textual sources of the Quran and hadith. He is considered as a mujtahid or authority to whom others in the Muslim community have to defer in details of religious law. He is credited with developing a series of syllabi for attaining various ranks of scholarship and used a strict system of legal analysis based on Sunni thought. He insisted that any jurist who wanted to be a mujtahid fi'l-madhhab a scholar who is qualified to exercise ijtihad within a school of Islamic law was required to do ijtihad which stemmed from his opposition to taqlid for a mujtahid which he deemed to be a vice with which the Shariah had been inflicted.Wikipedia. The Ludwigslied is an Old High German OHG poem of 59 rhyming couplets celebrating the victory of the Frankish army led by Louis III of France over Danish Viking raiders at the Battle of Saucourt-en-Vimeu on 3 August 881. The poem is thoroughly Christian in ethos. It presents the Viking raids as a punishment from God: He caused the Northmen to come across the sea to remind the Frankish people of their sins and inspired Louis to ride to the aid of his people. Louis praises God both before and after the battle. De Heinrico a political poem of 27 lines written in the 10th century. It is in mixed Latin and Old High German the first half of each line being in Latin the second in German. It is a propagandist poem in praise of Duke Heinrich of Bavaria recounting the gracious reception accorded him by the Emperor Otto. The Annolied "Song of Anno" was composed around 1100 in Early Middle High German rhyming couplets by a monk of Siegburg Abbey. The Annolied was an encomium to Bishop Anno II of Cologne d. 1075 later Saint Anno who was the founder of Siegburg Abbey. The poem consists of three parts: the religious or spiritual history of the world and its salvation from the creation to the time of Anno II; the secular history of the world up to the foundation of the German cities including the theory of the world empires derived from the vision of the Book of Daniel; and finally the "Vita Annonis" or the biography of Bishop Anno II.Wikipedia. Meir Lublin or Meir ben Gedalia 1558 - 1616 was a Polish rabbi Talmudist and Posek "decisor of Jewish law". He is well known for his commentary on the Talmud Meir Einai Chachamim. He is also referred to as Maharam Hebrew acronym: "Our Teacher Rabbi Meir" Meir Einei Chachamim is his best known work a "casuistic commentary" on the Talmud Rashi and Tosafot together. It was published by his son Gedaliah and has since been printed in all principal editions of the Talmud under the heading "Maharam." It is considered one of the important commentaries on the Talmud.
