Oppenheim set forth an original description of amyotonia congenita Oppenheim's disease and coined the term dystonia musculorum deformans. His interest in neurosurgery and brain tumors led him in 1890 to diagnose the first brain tumor that was surgically removed. Oppenheim's text-book a landmark in neurology passed through seven german editions. With each separate disease entity in this work Oppenheim gives references to the previous literature making it a valuable reference source for neurological disease for physicians at that time".
