Marque d'imprimeur sur la page de titre, belles lettrines. Rare édition Lyonnaise. Quelques annotations manuscrites anciennes et surlignages à l'encre dans les marges , sur le titre et sur le dernier feuillet blanc. Nom d'un ancien possesseur du livre : D. Fernandez de 0ro. Juan Luis Vives (Valence 1492 - Bruges 1540), humaniste espagnol, étudia à la Sorbonne à Paris avant de s'installer à Bruges en 1512. Il a écrit beaucoup d'ouvrages pédagogiques, philosophiques, etc. Cet ouvrage décrit les vices des principales disciplines enseignées dans les écoles et universités (grammaire, dialectique, rhétorique, philosophie et droit civil) et reprend les reformes proposées par Vives et les règles de philosophie. La première édition date de 1531. Provenance : exemplaire aux armes et avec l'ex-libris de D. Joachim Gomez de La Cortena, marquis de Morante, né au Mexique le 6 septembre 1805, mort à Madrid le 13 juin 1868. Il avait été docteur en droit à l'Université d'Alcala de henares, ancien recteur de l'Université de Madrid, et membre du Tribunal suprême et du Conseil de l'Instruction publique. Le marquis de Morante mourut d'une chute qu'il fit au milieu de ses livres. Paul Lacroix, dans son intéressante étude sur ce bibliophile, cite plusieurs amateurs ou bibliothécaires qui périrent de la même façon : entre autres le P. L. Jacob, auteur des plus belles bibliothèques ; Frederic Adolphe Ebert, directeur de la Bibliothèque de Dresde ; et l'Helleniste Coray ; nous ajouterons le savant Rufus dont parle Pline le Jeune dans ses Lettres.
