‎Summary This volume aims at filling a major gap in international literature concerning the knowledge of the Latin language and literature by Post-Byzantine scholars from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries. Most of them, immigrants to the West after the Fall of Byzantium, harmoniously integrated into their host countries, practiced and perfected their knowledge of the Latin language and literature, excelled in arts and letters and, in many cases, managed to obtain civil, political and clerical offices. They wrote original poetic and prose works in Latin, for literary, scholarly and/or political purposes. They also translated Greek texts into Latin, and vice versa. The contributors to this volume explore the multifaceted aspects of the knowledge of the Latin language and literature by these scholars. Among the many issues addressed in the volume are: the reasons that urged Post-Byzantine scholars to compose Latin works and disseminate Ancient Greek works to the West and Latin texts to the East, their audience, the fate of their projects, and their relations among them and with Western scholars. In the contents of the volume one can find well known Post-Byzantine scholars such as Bessarion or Isidore of Kiev, as well as lesser known authors like Ioannis Gemistos, Nikolaos Sekoundinos and others. Hence, hereby is provided a canon of scholars who, albeit Greek, are considered essentially as representatives of Neo-Latin literature, along with others who, through their translations, contributed to the rapprochement - literary and political - of East and West. ‎Summary Isaac Argyros was a leading astronomer and theologian of the late 14th century, who spent most of his life at the Chora monastery in Constantinople. Besides several works on astronomy, he wrote a number of treatises against the Palamites in the tradition of his teacher and mentor Nicephorus Gregoras: (1.) De quattuor modis participationis Dei; (2.) De lumine Transfigurationis ad Gedeonem Zographum; and (3.) Solutio quaestionis cuiusdam Palamiticae. Former emperor John Cantacuzenus composed a lenghty treatise against Argyrus (Contra Argyrum), in which he attacks the fact that Argyros and his followers deny three things: that the seven spirits referred to by Isaiah are uncreated; that the grace of God is uncreated; and that men receive gifts of God in an immediate manner. Together, the four texts in this edition shed light on an interesting chapter in the palamite controversy.‎

The story of the silkworm was told in the book from the silkworm egg to the silk. Narrators (silkworm, mulberry leaf and author) told the story from their own perspectives. The silkworm ate lots of mulberry leaves during the caterpillar stage since continuing its bloodline was its fundamental goal. It underwent the necessary transformations inside the silk walled house it weaved. It was reborn as a moth and came out of its cocoon. It coupled and left the eggs that will continue its bloodline. Thus, it experienced the joy of fulfilling its task before passing away. This natural cycle of life does not always continue in this manner. The goal of mankind to obtain the silk on the walls of the cocoon continuously disrupts the reproduction instinct of the silkworm. The silkworm tells the change in its life as such: "From that point onwards, I am just a string of silk. I am now a part of the lives of humans with my silk. I become the clothes on people's bodies or a carpet on which children play. I live with people, move with people, breathe with people. I am also udes as a building material of many artworks. I pay the price fort he silk I produce with my life. However, I start living among the people with their own energies. The 'silk' in my name 'silkworm' keeps on living. Thus, I am immortalized in the art of living with my silk. This consoles and immortalizes me.".‎
