SENA HATIP DINÇYÜREK.
A 'Compassionate' episode in Anglo - Ottoman history: British relief to the '93 refugees, (1877-78).
New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 13,5 cm). In English. 213 p. Ills. The 1877-78 Russo-Turkish War, known in Turkish sources by its Rumi date: '93 Harbi, has been thoroughly studied through political and military lenses. The mass exodus of hundreds of thousands of Ottoman subjects before the advancing Russian armies was a major humanitarian calamity, one with possibly more long-term historical consequences than the mere shifting of borders. Despite its significance, it has received relatively humble attention in the pages of history. This book attempts to illuminate a lesser known aspect of this subject, in particular, the general voluntary relief efforts on the part of the British people for the Ottoman refugees (the '93 Refugees). This book covers the activities of both the institutions and the prominent figures of this endeavor, against the background of humanitarian diplomacy. In doing so, it provides the reader with an intimate look into a "compassionate" episode in late 19th century Anglo-Ottoman history.

SERDAR AYBEK, AYGÜN EKIN MERIÇ, ALI KAZIM ÖZ.
A mother goddess city in Ionia: Metropolis. An archaeological guide.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 15 cm). In English. 192 p. Color and b/w ills. "Metropolis is a city of the Mother Goddess in Ionia. The classical city of Metropolis is situated 45 km from Izmir and the Aegean coast overlooking the Torbali plain alongside the Izmir - Aydin motorway. In classical times the communication route was the Cayster River (Kucuk Menderes) and Metropolis lay at the mid point between Smyrna and Ephesus. Lying beneath the classical city are Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements - and above the classical city is a Byzantine settlement and fort, also used during the Ottoman period. Metropolis lived its golden era during the Late Hellenistic Period. Altars were erected in honour of Emperor Augustus during Roman Imperial Period. It became a bishopric in the Age of Byzantine Empire. Its people governed the city from its acropolis, worshipped gods, wandered and shopped in its stoa, decided on city in bouleuterion, enjoyed plays in its theatre. Now archaeologists are excavating where Metropolis once built, tracking past civilizations authoring the story of humanity reaching our days from centuries ago. The site has been excavated for the past 18 years by the Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir under the guidance of Professor Recep Meric. From 2007 Dr Serdar Aybek from The University of Trakya has taken over leadership of the excavation.".

Victorya Islam Inas Sanayi Mektebi ve Kibrisli Türk kadinlarin haklari, (1902-1985).
Fine English Paperback. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). In Turkish. 78 p., b/w ills. Victorya Islam Inas Sanayi Mektebi ve Kibrisli Türk kadinlarin haklari, (1902-1985). The Ottoman State had to leave the administration of Cyprus to the United Kingdom through the Treaty in 1878. Thus, the island of Cyprus was administered by the United Kingdom from 1878 until 1960. There were some regulations in every area, including education, on the island during the United Kingdom period. One of these regulations was the opening of new schools on the island. One of these schools was Victoria Girls' School, where girls on the island received education. After the establishment of the Lycee of Cyprus on the island in 1897, the Victoria Girls' School was opened in 1901. The British administration and the Turkish Cypriot philanthropists have come together to cover the construction costs of the Victorian school. In addition, the British colonial administration requested that the name of the school be Victorian in return for the assistance it made for the construction of the school. The school, which started its educational activities in 1902 despite its establishment in 1901, played an important role in the development of contemporary Turkish Cypriot women. Moreover, it can be said that the school had important impacts on the political, cultural and social life of the island. Meanwhile, the school played an important role in the adoption of the Ataturk's Revolutions in Cyprus. Thus, during and after the United Kingdom period, the Victorian Girls' School has become one of the most well-established schools of the island where the Turkish Cypriot girls were educated. In the research, it was explained in chronological order how this educational institution was established and through which phases it passed.
