The camps promoted Zionism Judaism and American outdoor and camping culture to the underprivileged children of New York's Jewish community. The organization was ultimately composed of seven camps serving more than 1000 campers. The camps ultimately closed in 1992 but are seem as instrumental and influential in the development of the now successful "Camp Ramah" network of camps. It is considered the first Jewish Summer Camp.
