‎This edition brings together the narratives of three important 12th-century travellers to the newly established Crusader States in the Holy Land, one Anglo-Saxon: Saewulf, and two Germans: John of Wurzburg and Theoderic(us). All three narratives clearly convey the tremendous impression that these visits to the scene of Christ's wanderings on earth produced on our pilgrims. Apart from the independend value of their observations (mainly in Jerusalem, much less in Judea and Samaria), Saewulf is interesting for being the first to give a description of the situation in the Holy Land immediately after the capture of Jerusalem. His narrative reflects the often sorry state of affairs which prevailed at the end of the Fatimid period. ‎In the spring of 1348, the Black Death arrived in the diocese of Barcelona. The immediate effects were extraordinary mortality and fear. Over the long term, rural life was marked by conflict as peasants and lords reacted to an economy where death had made labour scarce and expensive. Urban society also suffered from plague mortality, but it is a matter of controversy how such demographic changes contributed to the eventual decline of Barcelona in the fifteenth century. The documents of the diocesan register Notule communium 15 (1348-1349) reveal the church's immediate reactions to the plague and provide evidence for patronage and ecclesiastical administration that will be useful to social and economic historians in assessing the immediate and long-term consequences of the Black Death, especially since contrastng material from before 1348 is available in the register Notule communium 14 (1345-1348) calendared by Jocelyn N. Hillgarth and Giulio Silano in the present series. The Black Death is an overwhelming influence on the register, although it is mentioned directly only a handful of times. The bishop of Barcelona, Miquel de Ricoma, was absent at Avignon throughout his tenure (1346-1361), but his vicars-general continued to provide churches to worthy candidates, promote new clerics, and hear cases in the episcopal court. Their work was complicated in the wake of the Black Death: churches lost rectors, patrons did not present candidates for vacant positions (perhaps due to a lack of qualified replacements), and last wills were left unexecuted. Meanwhile, the usual business of the diocesan courts continued, with debts being registerd, criminal clergy punished, and lax parishioners exhorted. The introduction to the present calendar describes the historical and ecclesiastical setting, and includes analysis of the process of registration. ‎Summary Boethius' De divisione or Liber divisionum was the authoritative book on mereology in medieval scholasticism. Together with other Boethian works it formed part of the Ars vetus, the core of which was constituted by Porphyry's Isagoge and Aristotle's Categories and Peri hermeneias, but after c. 1250 the Boethian works were but rarely taught in university. One master who did do courses on De divisione was Radulphus Brito (c. 1270 - 1320/21), who taught in the Parisian Faculty of Arts in the 1290's and possibly some years into the 1300's after having become a student of theology about 1299. Radulphus was an innovative thinker with a considerable impact on the philosophical debate in his lifetime, and he continued to be considered relevant till the end of the 15th century. He left a vast amount of writings, most of them from his days as a teacher of the arts. Among those preserved are quaestiones on the whole of the Ars vetus and Ars nova, Parva naturalia, Physics, De anima, Metaphysics and Ethics, as well as Priscianus minor. Radulphus taught some courses more than once, and each time revised the text of his lectures, leaving us with two or more versions of the relevant questions. On De divisione there are even two completely different sets of questions, both of which are edited for the first time in the present volume. The introduction contains a detailed study of the way Brito's question commentaries developed over time.
