Rome - Plachi 1717 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First edition. An extremely scarce copy presumed first edition of Cozza's dogmatic histories on the heresies of St. Augustine. Lorenzo Cozza 1654 1729 was an Italian friar Minor Observantist Roman Catholic Cardinal and theologian. In his order he filled the positions of lector of theology in the convent of Santa Maria in Aracoeli lector of philosophy in the convent of Saint Diego Naples 1676 and lector of theology in the convent of Viterbo where he also became guardian. He then returned to the convent of Aracoeli as lector of theology and later in 1696 guardian. For five years Cozza was master of Francesco Antonio Placidi friar Minor and future Saint Thomas of Cori. Cardinal Giulio Cesare Sacchetti chose Cozza as his confessor and theological adviser thus giving rise to a friendship that lasted through life. St Augustine was one of the most prolific Latin authors in terms of surviving works and the list of his works consists of more than one hundred separate titles. They include apologetic works against the heresies of the Arians Donatists Manichaeans and Pelagians texts on Christian doctrine notably De Doctrina Christiana On Christian Doctrine exegetical works such as commentaries on Book of Genesis the Psalms and Paul's Letter to the Romans many sermons and letters and the Retractationes a review of his earlier works which he wrote near the end of his life. Condition: Invellum bindings. Externally sound. Some marks to the boards. Front hinge of Volume II starting. Internally firmly bound though some hinges strained. The wraps are a bit faded and creased. Internally the plain wraps are heavily discolored. There is a numerical paper label across the fold of the spine. There are several light stains on the title page. The last page is adhered to the rear wrap along the inside margin and is also slightly stained. The pages are lightly foxed. Minor damp stains occasionally along the edges of the pages. Flake 8208. The study of Hebrew and theology led to Lorenzo Snow's conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1836. Cosimo III de' Medici 1642 1723 was Grand Duke of Tuscany from 1670 to 1723. He was the elder son of the incumbent grand duke Ferdinando. Cosimo's fifty-three-year long reign the longest in Tuscan history was marked by a series of ultra-reactionary laws which regulated prostitution and banned May celebrations and witnessed Tuscany's deterioration to previously unknown economic lows. Lorenzo Magalotti 1637 1712 was an Italian philosopher author diplomat and poet. Condition: The binding is tight and firm. There is slight wear to the extremities including bumping. Internally the pages are bright and generally clean with the occasional spots or handling marks. There is a library label on the front pastedown for York libraryand the occasional blindstampedor ink library mark to the plates sometimes affecting image. There is a small chipfrom page 493/4. There are some tidemarks to the frontis and offsetting from the plates with a few missing tissue guards. Overall the condition is very good. /FONT> hardcover
