Paris, Les Editions de France 1930. In-8 broché à grandes marges de 291 pages au format 20 x 14 cm. Couverture avec titre imprimé. Dos carré. Plats et intérieur frais, malgré des bords extérieurs un peu pliés à cause des marges. Texte français de Madame E.R. Blanchet. Un des 55 exemplaires numérotés sur Vélin pur fil Lafuma, du tirage de tête, ( n° 3 ), avec signature de Madame E. R. Blanchet. Superbe état général, proche du parfait. Rare édition originale de ce recueil de nouvelles d'espionnage inspiré par l'expérience de l'auteur en tant qu'agent secret dans le Secret Intelligence Service pendant la Première Guerre mondiale ( à partir de 1916 ). Le héros, Mr Ashenden est un agent secret britannique, dont les aventures s'inscrivent dans l'univers de l'espionnage et du contre-espionnage. Ce personnage récurrent et partiellement autobiographique, apparaît dans d'autres œuvres de Maugham, dont les romans L'Envoûté, La Ronde de l'amour, et Le Fil du rasoir. Une partie de ce livre sera adapté au cinéma dans Le film " Quatre de l'espionnage " réalisé en 1936 par Alfred Hitchcock, avec John Gielgud et Peter Lorre, puis dans le film " Trio ", réalisé en 1950 par Ken Annakin et Harold French, avec Roland Culver. En 1991, la chaîne de télévision BBC1 a repris plusieurs nouvelles du recueil pour produire une mini-série en quatre épisodes intitulée " Ashenden " réalisée par Christopher Morahan, avec Alex Jennings dans le rôle-titre, ainsi que Joss Ackland, Harriet Walter, Alan Bennett et Jason Isaacs.

The script would have been used in post-production to ensure synchronization and subtitling accuracy.</p> <p>The Pinter-Losey collaboration is considered a landmark of British New Wave cinema noted for its claustrophobic depiction of class manipulation and psychological power games. A two-page flyer providing cast credits and film story with campaign artwork to front side ideal for framing. Printed in colour. Although unmarked this is from the collection of Joel Finler. Light handling three folds some light creases. Very good. A drama directed by Edmund Goulding produced by Darryl F. Zannuck starring Tyrone Power and Gene Tierney. The film received four Oascar nominations winning one Anne Baxter Best Supporting Actress. Joel W. Finler born 1938 was the first film critic for Time Out. He is the author of numerous books on cinema and film directors including Stroheim Alfred Hitchcock - The Hollywood Years The Movie Director's Story and the award-winning The Hollywood Story. Frank Brangwyn etching woodcut Arthur Rackham and John Singer Sargent photogravure are amongst the other artists. The only two issues of this literary annual. Also found here: Maugham's first play "Marriages are Made in Heaven" along with contributions from G.K. To director George Cukor: Maugham's lover Alan Searle comments of Maugham's failing health and Cukor's new film "My Fair Lady." In part: ".Life here too terrible and unreal to be talked about. I wish the end would come. Poor darling old Willie is so miserable and unhappy." Together with George Cukor's 2 page reply dated February 6 1965. This is Cukor's retained copy which he has signed. Cukor comments on his film "My Fair Lady" as well as pending Disney film "Peter Pan" which he never worked on. Searle intimate friend of W. Somerset Maugham. In his last years Maugham adopted Searle as his son in order to ensure that he would inherit his estate a move hotly contested by his daughter Liza and her husband Lord Glendevon and which exposed Maugham to much public ridicule. Maugham died on December 16 1965. No Binding. Very Good. unknown
