Boards are edgeworn and inner hinges are cracked but holding nicely.<br /> <br /> This 11th memoir of the Egypt Exploration Fund contains the following two books: The first one "Ahnas el Medineh Heracleopolis Magna With Chapters on Mendes the Nome of Thoth and Leontopolis" deals with the results of two excavation campaigns undertaken by Swiss archaeologist Edouard Naville at Ahnas el Medineh mostly known as Heracleopolis Magna the Roman name of the capital of the 20th nome of ancient Upper Egypt. The site is located approximately 9.3 miles 13 km west of the modern city of Beni Suef in the Beni Suef Governorate of Egypt. <br /> <br /> This first part is illustrated with 17 plates 4 with b/w illustrations one map and 12 with striking photogravures<br /> <br /> The second book "The Tomb of Paheri at El Kab" deals with the excavations undertaken at the tomb of Paheri a local ancient Egyptian prince who lived in El Kab at the beginning of the 18th Dynasty New Kingdom - about 1500 BC. <br /> <br /> His grave was decorated with reliefs and is one of the best preserved of the early 18th Dynasty. The tomb highlights the important role of this city at the beginning of this era. The tomb consists of an aboveground chapel which consists of a room and has a shaft in front of it leading down to the burial chamber. <br /> <br /> In the grave the reliefs on the west wall depict mainly agricultural scenes and rituals for the dead in the center; on the east wall is depicted a large banquet. On the back wall is a niche containing three statues representing Paheri his wife Henuterneheh and his mother Kemi.<br /> <br /> This second part is illustrated with 10 plates b/w illustrations. Light soiling; bottom corner of the final leaf is chipped in the margin. Pearson a Quaker researched tithes in 17th century. His principal work on them "The Great Case of Tythes" originally appeared in 1657 going into two more editions within a couple of years. This present edition is among four more editions which appeared in the 18th century. "His examination of tithing among the biblical Jews and in the history of the church persuaded him that they were not required by divine law equity monarchical grants parliamentary statute or the rights of those who had purchased impropriated tithes though he supported compensation for improprietors. The termination of tithing he argued would stop ceaseless lawsuits provide incentives to raise more crops and relieve the people of an oppressive burden." VG-Fine/Good. 14.5 Cm x 22 Cm. unpaginated prelims138; 1975-dated sig.top front endpaper plus a purple stamp 'Raman Publications "Sri Rajeswari" Balngalore-20' verso t.p. has a small ink price correction from 20 rupees to '£ 2/-'; otherwise internally clean tight and unmarked in clean attractive unworn covers - no spine lettering but title on from cover though rather overpowered by patterned cloth. Unclipped jacket has three traingular chips one quite small to top edge and all edgesspiune a browning will add protective sleeve when ordered. Jung's letter at end explains his attitude to astrology which is quite positive but explicable in terms of synchronicity rather than stellar causation. Apparently scarce. This may be a revised version of his 'A Manual of Hindu Astrology' 1935 with 2nd ed. 1943. Raman was editor of The Astrological Magazine.
