He was known as Old Fuss and Feathers for his insistence on proper military etiquette and fought a duel over his criticism of General James Wilkinson whom he considered a profiteer. This contemporary biography covers most of Scott's military service in the US army during the War of 1812 the Aroostock War the Seminole War the removal of the Cherokee his role on the Niagara frontier during the 1837 Rebellion and his appointment as the Commander of the Army in 1841. The author Edward Deering Mansfield 1801 �1880 was an American author born in New Haven Connecticut and graduated from West Point in 1818. Mansfield decided not to enter military service but rather continued his studies at Princeton in law and was admitted to the Connecticut bar in 1825. In 1836 he became professor of constitutional law at Cincinnati College but soon abandoned the legal profession to engage in journalism. He was editor at the Cincinnati Chronicle 1836�49 the Atlas 1849�52 and the Railroad Record 1854�72 and he authored several books. . A. S. Barnes & Co hardcover
