Superbe ensemble de cinq photographies originales, représentant l'aviateur Alain Gerbault et son équipage, au retour de son premier combat aérien, entre Picardie et Champagne, le17 mars 1917. Trois des photographies comportent des précisions manuscrites au crayon de papier au verso. Ces trois mêmes portent le cachet imprimé "Mme Houx Delapierre, 55, Paul Boudet, 53000 Laval", ville natale de Gerbault. Gerbaultremporte sa première victoire personnelle en abattant un ennemi à bord du "Smash", appareil n° 7 de l'escadrille des Loups, dont le numéro et le profil de loup figurent bien sur le fuselage de l'avion : «Quand il atterrit, son mécanicien voit que ce n'est pas du chiqué: la carlingue de son propre avion est criblée de 54impacts de balles » : le mécano et le mitrailleur posent devant l'avion sur l'un des clichés. L'aviateur pose sur trois photographies à bord de son appareil. Quatre poilus sont immortalisés sur la dernière image, devant l'avion de Gerbault. Ce pionnier de l'aviation de guerre se fera ensuite connaître sur les mers, avec sa traversée de l'Atlantique en solitaire d'Est en Ouest en 1923, et sera également un champion de tennis.
