Spinoza e il problema dell'espressione
Le definizioni correnti della filosofia male si applicano a Spinoza: pensatore solitario e controverso, che concepisce la filosofia come un'impresa di liberazione e di demistificazione radicali, che ha equivalenti solo in Lucrezio o più tardi in Nietzsche. Il pensiero di Spinoza pone oggi questioni attualissime che riguardano il ruolo dell'ontologia (teoria della sostanza), dell'epistemologia (teoria dell'idea), dell'antropologia politica (teoria dei modi, delle passioni e delle azioni). L'oggetto di questo libro è di determinare il nesso fra queste tre dimensioni: l'affermazione speculativa o l'univocità dell'Essere nella teoria della sostanza; la produzione del vero o la genesi del senso nella teoria dell'idea; la gioia pratica o l'eliminazione delle passioni tristi, l'organizzazione selettiva delle passioni nella teoria dei modi. Queste tre dimensioni sono ordinate secondo un concetto sistematico, quello di espressione (la sostanza si esprime negli attributi, gli attributi si esprimono nei modi, le idee sono espressive). Senza dubbio il concetto di espressione ha una lunga storia già prima di Spinoza, esso ha caratterizzato una delle forme essenziali del neoplatonismo cristiano ed ebraico così come si svilupparono nel Medioevo e nel Rinascimento. In che modo allora Spinoza si inserisce nella tradizione espressionista? La domanda è importante soprattutto perché anche Leibniz fa dell'espressione uno dei suoi concetti fondamentali. In Spinoza come in Leibniz l'espressione anima la teoria di Dio, delle creature e della conoscenza. In maniera indipendente l'una dall'altra, le due filosofie si affidano all'idea di espressione per superare le difficoltà del cartesianesimo, per riproporre una filosofia della natura e della sua potenza e per ricreare una logica e un'ontologia: un nuovo "materialismo" e un nuovo "formalismo". Ma il modo in cui Spinoza comprende e sviluppa tale concetto, conferendogli una nuova struttura, costituisce forse il cuore del suo pensiero e del suo stile, ed è uno dei segreti dell'Etica. La filosofia di Spinoza è uno dei tentativi più radicali di costituire un'ontologia pura: una sola sostanza per tutti gli attributi, infiniti modi di essere per ciascun attributo. Ma, sostiene Deleuze, questo complesso edificio filosofico non è riducibile a un programma teorico: occorre "entrare dentro Spinoza", cogliendo la Sostanza come un piano d'immanenza in cui si trovano anime, corpi, individualità, senza alcuna dimensione teorica trascendente. Da questa ontologia deriva un'etica intesa come scienza pratica dei modi di essere, studio dei "costumi" e dunque vera e propria etologia. Bien que diffusée confidentiellement, l'oeuvre d'Hemsterhuis exerça une influence majeure sur ses contemporains: Diderot, qui le fréquenta et le commenta, Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi dont la 'Lettre à M Hemsterhuis' sur Spinoza (1784) est insérée pour la première fois dans cette édition, mais aussi Herder, Goethe, Hölderlin, Novalis et Schlegel. "Les thèmes des données immédiates de la conscience et du retour à la vie simple qu‘illustrera Bergson sont toujours présents (…). Bien avant les romantiques, il proclame l’union de la poésie et de la philosophie dans un éloge de l’enthousiasme qui met l’imagination à la source de toute appréhension de la vérité (…). L’apport fondamental de Hemsterhuis à la pensée de son temps est de l’avoir, par son platonisme, écarté de tout empirisme et de tout matérialisme sans pour autant la limiter à une fonction critique, mais en lui restituant son sens métaphysique" (J.-L. VIII 252 pp. � First edition of Herder's major philosophical work which evoked a new interest in Spinoza and played a central role in the controversy on atheism and Spinozism in late 18th century Europe. <br><br>Johann Gottfried von Herder 1744-1803 is the most important theoretical thinker of the "Sturm und Drang"-era and he greatly influenced the young Goethe.<br><br>Initially Herder was very inspired by Kant whose lectures he followed but he later turned against him. His world view is primarily influenced by Spinoza and Leibnitz. The present work "God" which carried the working title "Spinoza Shaftesburi Leibnitz" is published in the midst of the vitriolic Spinoza-controversy in Germany in the 1780's. The dialogues on Spinoza which constitute Herder's often overlooked key work finally establishes the crucial importance of Spinoza to a certain philosophical world view. Though Spinoza was not considered of good standing in Germany in the late 18th century Herder dared consider him the most consequent of philosophers and in him he found the possibility of escaping all aspects of dualism -that between God and Nature as well as that between spirit and matter. Though previously heavily inspired by Jacobi Herder distances himself from his friend's fear of Spinoza and finally refuses to acknowledge a God which is placed outside of or on top of the world. Herder's "Gott" was a very controversial work at the time since being linked with Spinozism was considered the same as being an atheist. Two years previous to the appearance Jacobi had published a condemnation of Spinoza's pantheism and together with Mendelssohn these two works play seminal roles in the central controversy of Spinoza which became a major philosophical and religious concern for European intellectualism at the time. <br><br>In this work Herder develops his own philosophy based on that of Spinoza and attempts to unite Spinoza with Leibnitz. "Gott" has played a profound role in the later interest in the depths of the philosophy of Spinoza.<br><br>The second edition of the work appeared in 1800 under the title "Gott.
