‎Untere Ecke von Vorder- und Rückdeckel bestoßen, sonst gutes Exemplar. - Zu den prachtvollsten illuminierten Renaissancehandschriften aus Italien zählt die "Nikomachische Ethik" des griechischen Philosophen Aristoteles. ).. Dieser Codex wurde von Andrea Matteo III. Acquaviva, Herzog von Atri, um 1500 in Auftrag gegeben. Der große Feldherr war nicht nur ein bedeutender Mäzen der Kunst und Gelehrsamkeit, er schrieb auch selbst philosophische Abhandlungen, die ihm hohen wissenschaftlichen Ruhm unter seinen Zeitgenossen einbrachten. Aristoteles, der für die Entwicklung der abendländischen Philosophie und Theologie von herausragender Wichtigkeit war, schätzte der Herzog besonders. So bestimmte er auch selbst das Bildprogramm der Handschrift der Nikomachischen Ethik, eines Hauptwerks antiker Moralphilosophie, dem eine lange Nachwirkung beschieden war und das sich der Herzog in der Originalsprache kopieren und mit einem aufwendigen Buchschmuck ausstatten ließ. An die Anfänge der zehn Bücher des Textes sind insgesamt zehn reiche Bildseiten gesetzt, die anhand allegorischer und mythologischer Szenen, historischer, philosophischer und genrehafter Darstellungen, den Inhalt der Bücher der Ethik veranschaulichen. Die Künstler der Miniaturen sind _ Reginaldus Piramus aus Monopoli in Apulien, ein sehr begabter Maler der süditalienischen Renaissance, und ein Gehilfe. Ihnen gelang eine einfühlsame Umsetzung der Ideen des Herzogs, die in engem und gut nachvollziehbarem Bezug zum Text stehen. Der Codex wurde Mitte des 16. Jahrhunderts vom Humanisten Johannes Sambucus in Neapel zusammen mit anderen Handschriften aus der Bibliothek des Herzogs von Atri und des aragone-sischen Königshauses erworben. Der Gelehrte widmete ihn nach seiner Rückkehr Kaiser Maximilian H. Er kam in der Folge in die Hofbibliothek, die heute das Kernstück der Handschriftensammlung in der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek bildet. ISBN 3201014168‎

‎Rare ouvrage anti-newtonnien ou contre la théorie de la loi de la gravitation universelle. Philippe Jules van Zuylen van Nyevelt fut Lieutenant-général et gouverneur de La Haye en 1804. Il fut nommé par Louis Bonaparte maréchal commandant militaire des Deux-Hollandes et de la province d'Utrecht, grand chambellan, grand maître des cérémonies, président du conseil de la noblesse et grand-croix de l'Ordre de l'Union. Après l'absorption du royaume de Hollande par l'Empire, il fut appelé à siéger au Sénat le 30 décembre 1810. Il fut nommé Comte de l'Empire le 17 mars 1811. Il contribua au rappel des Bourbons en 1815, et à son retour dans sa patrie il fut confirmé par le roi des Pays-Bas dans ses titres et dignités. Zuylen van Nyevelt est l'auteur de deux ouvrages : une méthode d'échecs parue en 1792 à Campen chez Calmers sous le titre La Supériorité aux échecs mise à la portée de tout le monde et particulièrement des dames qui aiment cet amusement, puis en 1818 son oeuvre pseudo-scientifique L'attraction détruite par le mouvement primordial qui ne comptait que 75 pages et une planche. Cette seconde édition très augmentée est imprimée en un grand format in-8 sur beau papier vergé. Membre de la Société historique de Compiègne (en 2009), labbé Bernard Merlette, érudit bien connu des médiévistes, notamment pour ses travaux sur les écoles et les bibliothèques de Laon, mais également pour son intime connaissance des manuscrits médiévaux et laide précieuse quil a toujours bien voulu apporter aux chercheurs, a aussi, durant plusieurs décennies, rassemblé une importante bibliothèque de recherche, au gré dune fréquentation assidue des libraires et bouquinistes parisiens.‎
