Este Ensayo sobre la anatom�a es una cr�tica de la utilidad del conocimiento anat�mico para curar las enfermedades. Es el resultado de la colaboraci�n entre el m�dico Thomas Sydenham y el fil�sofo John Locke quien tambi�n fue m�dico. Ambos autores son cimas del pensamiento m�dico y filos�fico de finales del siglo XVIII. Pero su veredicto sobre la utilidad terap�utica de la anatom�a es muy negativo. Sorprende esta desvalorizaci�n de la anatom�a porque en aquella �poca el conocimiento anat�mico macrosc�pico se hallaba pr�cticamente completo tras el magn�fico desarrollo de la anatom�a en el Renacimiento.
