Arthur Schopenhauer Danzica 22 febbraio 1788 - Francoforte sul Meno 21 settembre 1860 è stato un filosofo e aforista tedesco uno dei maggiori pensatori del XIX secolo.Firma di SchopenhauerLa sua filosofia articolata in precisi ragionamenti e aforismi caustici recupera alcuni elementi dell'illuminismo di Platone del romanticismo e del kantismo fondendoli con la suggestione esercitata dalle dottrine orientali specialmente quella buddhista e induista creando una sua originale concezione basata su un radicale pessimismo la quale ebbe una straordinaria influenza a volte anche rielaborata completamente sui filosofi successivi ad esempio su Friedrich Nietzsche e in generale sulla cultura europea contemporanea e successiva inserendosi nella corrente della filosofia della vita. Figlio di un ricco mercante e di una scrittrice dopo il suicidio del padre si stabilì a Weimar con la madre. Qui conobbe Wieland e Hegel. Con buoni studi alle spalle decise di dedicarsi alla filosofia e frequentò i corsi tenuti da Schulze a Gottinga e quelli di Fichte a Berlino. Nei confronti di questi ma anche di Schelling e di Hegel Schopenhauer nutrì sempre disprezzo e avversione definendo Hegel il gran ciarlatano. Nel 1809 s'iscrisse alla facoltà di medicina a Gottinga e nel 1811 si trasferì a Berlino per frequentare i corsi di filosofia. Ingegno molteplice sempre interessato ai più diversi aspetti del sapere umano frequentò corsi di fisica matematica chimica magnetismo anatomia fisiologia e tanti altri ancora nel 1813 si laureò a Jena con una tesi Sulla quadruplice radice del principio di ragion sufficiente e nel 1818 pubblicò la sua opera più importante Il mondo come volontà e rappresentazione che ebbe tuttavia scarsissimo successo tra i suoi contemporanei e che incominciò a ricevere qualche attenzione solo vent'anni dopo nonostante fossero giunti da più parti persino riconoscimenti ufficiali. Dal 1833 decise di fermarsi a Francoforte sul Meno dove visse da solitario borghese celibe per convinzione e misogino nonostante le molte relazioni con donne che ebbe durante la sua esistenza. La vera affermazione del pensatore si ebbe solo a partire dal 1851 data della pubblicazione del volume Parerga e paralipomena inizialmente pensato come un completamento della trattazione più complessa del Mondo ma che venne accolto come un'opera a sé stante che ebbe quello di far conoscere al grande pubblico anche le opere precedenti del filosofo. Fondamentalmente in pieno accordo con i dettami della sua filosofia pessimistica e rinunciataria manifestò un acuto disagio nei confronti dei contatti umani che gli procurò in città la fama di irriducibile misantropo e uno scarso interesse almeno in via ufficiale per le vicende politiche dell'epoca quali furono ad esempio i moti rivoluzionari del 1848 che guardò anzi con preoccupazione; i tardi riconoscimenti di critica e pubblico attenuarono i tratti più intransigenti del suo carattere procurandogli negli ultimi anni della sua esistenza una ristretta ma interessata e fedelissima cerchia di devoti apostoli come egli stesso amò definirli tra cui il compositore Wagner lo scrittore David Asher la scultrice Elisabet Ney. Morì di pleurite acuta nel 1860 a 72 anni.1 unknown
