br. Il periodo di Jena, che si conclude con la Fenomenologia dello spirito, deve essere assunto non come preparazione al successivo sistema, ma come forma autonoma di pensiero. La filosofia delinea un'apertura di possibilità per molti versi sconosciuta al sistema maturo. Di qui la pregnanza speculativa degli scritti spesso frammentari del periodo. È a partire dal nesso con la storia vivente e con la politica che si impone ad Hegel la necessità del rapporto con la logica e la metafisica. La soluzione della crisi che coinvolge la società e lo stato passa necessariamente attraverso la costruzione di una nuova logica. La crisi della politica è innanzitutto una crisi della forma della logica e della metafisica, cioè della forma moderna della razionalità. La ricerca intende chiarire il significato speculativo di questo nesso. Il punto di arrivo di questo percorso si compie attraverso un processo di oltrepassamento dell'ontologia, della metafisica e della logica tradizionali, che sfocia nella trasformazione della filosofia in filosofia dello spirito. Lo spirito riassume nella forma più elevata e complessa la socialità della ragione, che sì oggettiva sempre e necessariamente in linguaggio, lavoro e famiglia. Altrettanti modi della interazione storica.

Il punto di partenza della riflessione filosofica moderna non è più l'oggetto, concepito come essere, uno, Dio, ma il soggetto stesso. Il pensiero pone ad oggetto di indagine non più qualcosa di estraneo a sé, ma se stesso e in questa autoriflessione si trasforma nel fondamento della realtà. Allo sviluppo del soggettivismo è strettamente connessa l'altra grande categoria della modernità e cioè la scissione. La filosofia moderna elevando un solo principio della realtà all'incondizionato, in questo caso la soggettività, sancisce definitivamente la scissione, l'opposizione tra il pensiero e l'essere. Analizzando gli scritti giovanili fino a Fede e Sapere, si è voluto mostrare come il pensiero hegeliano, pur essendo influenzato da Kant, è mosso sin dall'inizio, dall'intento di superare la scissione e le filosofie della soggettività. Per Hegel la filosofia è chiamata a togliere, a superare la scissione, anzi come dirà nella differenza; quando la potenza dell'unificazione scompare dalla vita degli uomini, allora sorge il bisogno della filosofia.
