After the U.S. entrance into WWII Bradley oversaw the transformation of the 82nd Infantry Division into the first American airborne division. Bradley commanded in II Corps in Operation Torch and in the Allied invasion of Sicily. He commanded the First United States Army during the Invasion of Normandy. This autobiography gives historical insight of other WW II leaders like Patton and Montgomery as well as traces the decisions made and tactics fought during the European Theater of the War. Omar Nelson Bradley Feb 12 1893 - Apr 8 1981 was one of only five Army officers to be elevated to the rank of 5-Star General only 9 total in all services throughout history. He was called the "GI's general" for his sensitivity and leadership for the common soldier. Ultimately he command 1.3 million men which is the largest body of troops under a single field commander. After the war Bradley headed the Veterans Administration and became Army Chief of Staff. Bradley was appointed the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1949. DJ about Good w/ author portrait on front & white background; still glossy w/ some soil mostly on back edge wear incl. chips & closed tears- none severe. DJ spine & foldover flaps show old paper & scotch tape reinforcement & repairs neatly done on INSIDE- not really visible from exterior flaps MAY have separated at one time- hard to tell. DJ still displays well. Dark yellow/ orange cloth binding shows little wear- light toning along edges 1 sm. soft corner- tight square & clean w/ NO bumps rubs or frays. Text is tight clean unmarked.
