Per quanto riguarda il taoismo va precisato che tale ricerca è rivolta a ottenere una longevità, un'immortalità non tanto dell'anima, quanto del corpo fisico. Se nella cultura cinese antica esiste, praticamente da sempre, l'idea di un'anima che sopravvive oltre la morte, i taoisti invece hanno sempre indirizzato i loro studi all'indagine di una tecnica per non morire. Per noi è difficile comprendere questo concetto, ma tale ricerca è alla base di tutte quelle pratiche di longevità che, esercitate ancora oggi, permettono a una gran parte dei cinesi di arrivare in tarda età, in ottima salute. Se è vero che molte domande riguardo a come nacquero alcune discipline, tra cui la stessa medicina tradizionale cinese (mtc), rimangono senza una chiara risposta, possiamo altresì affermare che da circa venticinque secoli, le ricerche esoteriche taoiste apportarono numerosi benefici a tali pratiche.

Questi testi redatti fra gli anni Trenta e la morte dell'autore, ma raccolti in volume solo nel 1973, ci permettono di accedere ad alcune elaborazioni fra le meno conosciute e le più significative di Guénon.
