New York: Grosset & Dunlap 1926 but ca.1933. Reprint. Octavo 19.25cm; lime green cloth with titles stamped in hunter green on spine; hunter green topstain; dustjacket; vi2-2605pp ads. Subtle discoloration and some gentle nudging to spine ends else Near Fine with the topstain bright and unfaded. Dustjacket is gently spine-sunned lightly shelfworn with a few shallow nicks and short tears to spine ends and extremities and a 1.25" closed tear at lower front flap fold; Very Good. Hemingway's great Lost Generation novel about a group of American and British expatriates who travel from Paris to Spain. The pictorial jacket which depicts a flapper in a sleeveless green dress was reportedly Hemingway's favorite among all his books and he was quoted saying he preferred it to that of the original edition published by Scribner's. An odd variant retaining the spelling error on p.169 but misprinting his last name on the spine. A stunning copy of a key Hemingway title and a high-point of Art Deco dustjacket design. Cited as one of Cyril Connolly's 100 Key Books of the Modern Movement and basis for the 1957 Henry King film starring Tyrone Power Errol Flynn and Ava Gardner. cf.Hanneman A6c & Grissom A6.1.l.
