‎ca. 1851-2. Hardcover. Good. 21 p. First item is 5 p second item is 7 p. with 9 blank p. in between. 25 cm. Bugundy cloth spine with marbled paper boards. Light wear t oedges. Paper browned the blank leaves a bit more so than the text. Second item has chips to top corners with no loss of text. <br/><br/>Andrew Stuart and John Porter mentioned in the second act acquired the Saint-Maurice ironworks from Andrew's brother Henry in 1851. The facilities were in a state of disrepair when Porter and Stuart became owners. In spite of government assistance and extensive renvations such as enlarging the blast furnace the partners had to abandon the running of the ironworks in 1857 or 1858 after a long court battle with former partners and serious financial reverses. The government acted as the principal creditor in the case and repossed the works selling hem in 1862. hardcover‎

A fascinating album of over ninety early twentieth century postcards of the Wiltshire towns of Calne and Melksham. A wonderful album of eighty-four postcards with a further eight postcards present and loosely inserted.The vast majority of these postcards - which are dated between 1904 and 1937 - depict the streets of the town of Calne in southwestern England a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are also a small number of postcards depicting the streets of the nearby town of Melksham also in Wiltshire.Among the most interesting postcards are four postcards depicting King Edward VII's July 1907 visit to Calne and a 1937 postcard commemorating the coronation of King George VI.Forty-four of these postcards retain inscriptions and stamps to the reverse where the rest of the postcards are left blank.A charming collection offering wonderful insight into this region in the first half of the twentieth century. Housed in a plastic ring binder with 'Postcard Album' to the front board. Minor splits to front board head and tail otherwise externally excellent. Internally firmly bound. ‎19th century. An album of prints and photographs. 355x285mm. 79 cardboard leaves 340x270mm on which are pasted high quality monochrome prints from famous and not so famous paintings. Towards the back are a few original photographs. The card pages have one or two prints pasted on and around most of them are home-made paper frames of different colours and beneath the prints titles and the painters's names have been inscribed in a neat hand. The reproductions of the paintings are of a very high quality and the whole album has been lovingly put together and is clearly the work of some considerable time. The aesthetic is firmly that of Victorian sentimentality and none the worse for that. There are lots of animals children a fair bit of gentle religiosity wholesome rustic scenes jolly families and quaint humour. A real period piece. 19th century unknown‎

Photo album with twenty seven one tipped-in black and white photographs; photos 9 1/2 x 7 and 5 1/2 x 3 1/2; album - 12 3/4 x 9 3/4; title-page text and illustration in an elaborate multi-colored manuscript in French and Bulgarian; each photo subtitled in manuscript also in French and Bulgarian; album pages and images rippled without affecting their integrity; very good condition. Album - brown leatherette over boards tied with a decorative string; minor wear very good or better condition. The album was prepared for and presented to the Vice President of the French Weightlifting Federation Jean Dame in commemoration of the 9th World Festival of Youth and Students "For Solidarity Peace and Friendship" which was held in Bulgaria in July and August of 1968. The festival attracted over 20 000 people from 138 countries. The album contained photos of landmarks in the City of Vidin where the competions took place the vicinity the opening ceremonies athletes awards etc. By the author hardcover‎
