"Die vorliegende Arbeit verfolgt den Zweck die einer einzigen Lebensperiode und zwar den beiden ersten Lebensdecaden eigenartigen Erblindungsformen zu durchforschen. Der Hauptschwerpunkt der Darstellung ruht dabei auf der klinischen Seite und zwar ist derselbe durch das Material selbst gegeben. Denn da die zur Untersuchung benützten Blinden fast ausschliesslich Zöglinge von Blinden-Anstalten sind so war es nur unter gewissen Bedingungen gestattet durch Bezugnahme auf den Altersaufbau der Bevölkerung statistische Schlüsse von allgemeiner Bedeutung zu ziehen. Das quantitativ wie qualitativ gleich vortreffliche Blindenmaterial welches ich meiner Untersuchung zu Grunde legen konnte verdanke ich der grossen Liebenswürdigkeit mit welcher so viele Spezialkollegen des In- und Auslandes meinen Wünschen bezüglich der Untersuchung der verschiedenen Blinden-Anstalten entgegengekommen sind und ist es mir desshalb eine angenehme Pflicht all' den Kollegen welche mir zur Durchführung meiner Arbeit behülflich gewesen sind hiermit meinen ergebensten Dank zu sagen."
