Frontispiece portrait of Mrs Reid and portraits of famous women of history. 192 pp. plus 12 pp. publisher's catalog at rear. Title page states "Stereotype Edition". With a General Introduction by Mrs C.M. Caroline Mathilda Kirkland. Gilt stamping mostly bright minor wear to the cloth at the extremites; binding firm but with scattered foxing and a light tidemark on the upper corner of the first several leaves. An important early work on female equality first published in 1843 in Reid's native Scotland under the title "A Plea For Women". Marion Kirkland Reid held that the traditional boundaries of a "woman's sphere" were not at all as clear as early 19th century female moralists helda nd argued that civil rights and education would not have negative influence on a woman's place in the domestic enviornment. <br/><br/> Fowlers and Wells hardcover
