Questo suo dramma in versi e in cinque atti nonostante le incongruenze ha il potere di evocare romanticamente la rovina della monarchia spagnola e lo sfinimento della monarchia austriaca alla fine del XVII sec. Marie Tudor è un dramma in prosa in tre atti chiamati giornate rappresentato per la prima volta il 6 novembre 1833 al teatro della Porte Saint-Martin a Parigi. Come si evince dal titolo esso mette in scena la vicenda di Maria Tudor o Maria I d'Inghilterra. Angelo tiranno di Padova è un dramma in tre giornate in prosa rappresentato nel 1835; volutamente schematico mette di fronte invece di creature vive la donna e la cortigiana il sovrano il proscritto e lo sbirro invidioso. Ruy Blas è un dramma rappresentato per la prima volta l'8 novembre 1838 al teatro della Renaissance fondato dall'autore insieme ad Alexandre Dumas. Il dramma ambientato in Spagna è centrato sull'unione tra amore e politica: il protagonista Ruy Blas infatti da un lato combatte contro l'oligarchia che rovina lo Stato mentre dall'altro tenta di dimostrarsi degno della donna che ama la regina. Ma quest'uomo del popolo quest'amante romantico è ostaggio del suo padrone che lo usa per rovinare la reputazione della regina a cui ha dato per amante un servo Ruy Blas appunto. Il dramma si trasforma così in una tragedia dove il Male si fa servire dal Bene e dove a trionfare è il grottesco unknown

Vi si atteggia risolutamente a caposcuola unendo alla pratica dell'arte vigorosi accenti polemici. La raccolta è preceduta da una prefazione nella quale egli disserta con precisa eloquenza in favore della nuova poetica respinge le teorie del Classicismo rivendica alla poesia francese la massima libertà d'argomento e di espressione. A questa audacia si accompagna un mutamento delle idee politiche: dal primo atteggiamento legittimista passa con l'esempio della guerra d'indipendenza condotta dai greci contro l'Impero turco a magnificare la lotta dei popoli moderni contro la tirannide dei re. Nel complesso la raccolta per efficacia ed originalità non si dimostra inferiore alla sua fama che sembra aver aperto la strada a gran prte delle audacie poetiche di tutto il XIX secolo unknown
