Plus encore que Jack London deux livres sont fondamentaux dans la formation du jeune Maurice Genevoix : L'Enfant des bois d'Élie Berthet qui l'invitera à de premières rêveries puis Le Livre de la jungle de Kipling. Il en donnera dans Trente mille jours p. 161-163 deux remarquables pages. Dans les quelques livres qu'il emporte pieusement à l'Ecole Normale Supérieure figure cet exemplaire après l'avoir déjà lu dans ses années de lycée interne à Orléans. « Pour la première fois je me voyais matriculé : numéro 4. The front end papers are ads for Heinemann's Colonial Library including Forthcoming Volumes 1897 which lists this book as forthcoming in July; five leaves of ads at rear and the rear end papers bear ads for Popular Novels. Stain at base of spine some repair to inner rear hinge a bright and attractive copy otherwise. An indistinct rubber stamp on the front end paper indicates that this copy was from a shop in Bombay. First published in 1892 this appears to be the first Colonial issue. <br/><br/> hardcover
