Puck of Pook's Hill is a historical fantasy book by Rudyard Kipling published in 1906 containing a series of short stories set in different periods of English history. The stories are all narrated to two children living near Burwash in the area of Kipling's own house Bateman's by people magically plucked out of history by the elf Puck or told by Puck himself. Puck who refers to himself as the oldest Old Thing in England is better known as a character in William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. The genres of particular stories range from authentic historical novella A Centurion of the Thirtieth On the Great Wall to children's fantasy Dymchurch Flit. Each story is bracketed by a poem which relates in some manner to the theme or subject of the story. Condition: In a half-calf binding. This which Kipling always regarded as his first book had a great success among the community it satirised - ODNB. Condition: The binding is tight and firm. There is only very mild wear to the extremities with just very mild bumping and rubbing and some slight discolouration and marks to the boards. Internally the pages are generally clean with very occasional scattered spots and very mild browning to the page edges. With light scattered spots and slight offsetting to the endpapers. Doubleday 1910. Original red covers are bright with gilt lettering and decorations including an elephant. There is some rubbing and a bit of fraying at spine. Gold gilt on top. Tipped-in color illustrations with captions on the tissue-guards are all present. Front tippin a somewhat loose by spine and tissue is a bit torn. Neat owner's name and date on front endpaper .Some age toning to pages not all but no other marks. Nice tight copy. Large heavy book will probably need extra postage overseas. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. Illus. by Heath Robinson. 4to - over 9�" - 12" tall. Doubleday Hardcover

French translations of Kipling's always popularThe Jungle Book and its sequel with beautiful illustrations andin decorative leather bindings. Bound in half leather and marbled paper-covered boards. In Two Volumes. In French. Illustrations by Roger Reboussin. Translated by Louis Fabulet and Robert d'Humieres. Condition: The bindings are tight and firm. The front inner hinge of the second volume issomewhat strained. There is very slight rubbing to the extremities mainly to the spines. Internally the pages have very light browning to the edges. Overall the condition of volume one is very good indeed and the condition of the second book is good due to the front hinge being a bit weak with a very good indeed interior.
