According to the afterword by Max Brod this novel was not quite finished. It does however end on a more hopeful note than Kafka's other work. Previous owner name on each side of the front endpaper; the endpapers are moderately stained from glue offset. Inside is otherwise clean bright and soundly bound. The covers show light extremity wear and the gutters and spine show spotty fading also the likely effect of glue offset. The salmon jacket is complete but for very shallow chipping at the foot of the spine and the bottom front panel. There is moderate darkening to the spine and edges of the jacket. Historien er absurd ikke mindst fordi det Amerika Kafka skildrer er et produkt af hans egen fantasi; det har således aldrig eksisteret andre steder end i hans egen tankegang. På trods heraf er Kafkas fortællestil gruopvækkende realistisk hvilket nok giver en ambivalent opfattelse af Karls skæbne men samtidig skaber den følelse at man selv befinder sig midt i forløbet; denne stil er karakteristisk for Kafka og ses således også i andre af hans romaner som Processen og Slottet.
