London. 1947 Cheaper Edition Reprint. 8vo XX and XVI 497pp and 431pp. Both vols hardcover in publisher's blue cloth with sound firm spines and titles in gold on spine only showing very little shelfwear o/t edge flecking on Vol.2 with beige coloured non price clipped d/w's bearing titles and details of publication in brown both in excellent condition devoid of markings damage or edge wear. Both volumes protected in removable clear plastic covering with white d/w reinforcement too internally both are in very good condition or better with the eight illustrations and fold-out maps still present in excellent order. A famous detailed description of arguably the bravest and most tragic episodes of polar exploration with Vol I being Scott's journals and Vol II being the reports of the journeys and the scientific work undertaken by Dr. E.Wilson and the surviving expedition members. This is the smaller 'cheap edition' for 21 shillings originallynot the small 4to First Edition but it is still a handsome compact set in overall excellent condition. John Murray. Both volumes have rubbing to extremities and sunning to spines. Endpapers and pastedowns are toned to both volumes. Text-blocks are heavy and this has caused a little sagging on the spine and tender hinges but does not yet appear to be serious. Pages are text-blocks generally in good order with very occasional light signs of foxing. Vol.I has a vertical crease down its centre. Books weigh 3.5kg additional postage fee may be required.
