Candide [Hardcover]
ABOUT THE BOOK:- Candide begins in the German town of Westphalia, where Candide, a young man, lives in the castle of Baron of Thunder - ten- tronckh. A noted philosopher, Doctor Pangloss, tutors the baron on philosophical optimism. Candide, a simple man, first accepts this philosophy, but as he experiences the horrors of war, poverty, the maliciousness of man, and the hypocrisy of the Church, he begins to doubt the voracity of Pangloss’s theory. Thus, philosophical optimism is the focus of Voltaire’s Satire; anti-war and antichurch refrains also run throughout the novel. Candide makes his way to a neighbouring town, where he is aided by two soldiers. He is pressed into service and endures beating at the hands of his superiors. He was slapped in every direction by fate. In Paris, Candide becomes ill and is attended by a variety of people, all of whom want a piece of his fortune. He recovers, but is tricked by an actress into giving away much of his fortune and is eventually arrested by the police. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Francois – Marie Arouet (Voltaire) (1694 - 1778) was a French Enlightenment writer, historian and Philosopher, famous for his wit, his attacks on the established Catholic Church, and his advocacy of freedom of religion, freedom of speech and separation of Church and state. He wrote more than 20,000 letters and more than 2000 books and pamphlets. He was an outspoken advocate of civil liberties, despite the risk this placed him in under the script censorship laws of the time. Voltair’s best known histories are “The Age of Louis (1751), and his “Essay on the customs and the spirit of the nation (1756). He broke from the tradition of narrating diplomatic and military events, and emphasised customs, social history and achievements in the arts and sciences. Edgar Rice Burroughs
Tarzan of The Apes [Hardcover]
About The Book : Tarzan of the Apes is a 1912 story by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, and the first in the Tarzan series. It was first serialized in the pulp magazine The All-Story beginning October 1912 before being released as a novel in June 1914. The story follows the title character Tarzan's adventures, from his childhood being raised by apes in the jungle to his eventual encounters with other humans and Western society. So popular was the character that Burroughs continued the series into the 1940s with two dozen sequels. In April 2012, in advance of the novel's centennial anniversary, the Library of America published a hardcover edition based on Burroughs' original novel, with an introduction by Thomas Mallon.(ISBN 978-1-59853-164-0). Scholars have noted several important themes in the novel: the impact of heredity on behavior; racial superiority; civilization, especially as Tarzan struggles with his identity as a human; sexuality; and escapism. About The Author : Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875 –1950) was an American author, best known for his prolific output in the adventure, science fiction, and fantasy genres. Best-known for creating the characters Tarzan and John Carter, he also wrote the Pellucidar series, the Amtor series, and the Caspak trilogy. Tarzan was immediately popular, and Burroughs capitalized on it in every way possible, including a syndicated Tarzan comic strip, movies, and merchandise. Tarzan remains one of the most successful fictional characters to this day and is a cultural icon. Burroughs' California ranch is now the center of the Tarzana neighborhood in Los Angeles, named after the character. Burroughs was an explicit supporter of eugenics and scientific racism in both his fiction and nonfiction; Tarzan was meant to reflect these concepts. The Title 'Tarzan of The Apes written/authored/edited by Edgar Rice Burroughs', published in the year 2023. The ISBN 9788121298674 is assigned to the Hardcover version of this title. This book has total of pp. 415 (Pages). The publisher of this title is Gyan Publishing House. This Book is in English. The subject of this book is Science Fiction.
